Eyman Scholarship Eva Eyman was a teacher who received her degree in mid-life. She was an astute investor who regularly worked long hours and was frugal in her life style. Preference is given to students whose families indicate financial need. Applicants must be a resident of Fairfield County and be planning to attend an Ohio University campus for undergraduate studies. Scholarship awards for post-graduate study outside the state of Ohio will be considered. Recipient must maintain an overall GPA of 2.7 or higher and a GPA of 3.2 in designated major area. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Bess H. Floyd Cultural Arts Scholarship Bess H. Floyd established a fund in 1995 to provide scholarships to enhance excellence in music and cultural arts in Lancaster and Fairfield County. Eligible applicants should have exhibited a preference for and an interest in the cultural arts by the applicant’s high school activities. Must be resident of Fairfield County. Application essay should include information about art courses taken, specific areas of interest in the field of fine arts and honors received in art. Applicants will be required in the screening process to present examples of accomplishments in the cultural arts; a portfolio would be most helpful. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Bess H. Floyd Music Scholarship Bess H. Floyd established a fund in 1991 to provide scholarships to enhance excellence in music and the cultural arts in Lancaster and Fairfield County. Eligible applicants must be a resident of Fairfield County and should have exhibited a preference for and an interest in music arts by the applicant’s high school activities. Application essay should include information about music courses taken, specific areas of interest in the field of music arts and honors received. Applicants will be required in the screening process to present examples of accomplishments in music; a portfolio would be most helpful. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Jerry Floyd Memorial Scholarship Bess H. Floyd, wishing to perpetuate the memory of her son, Jerry Floyd, established scholarships for the recognition and furtherance of excellence in architecture, landscape design and interior design. Must be a resident of Fairfield County. One letter of recommendation must be from a professional practitioner in your area of interest. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Dr. Phil Floyd Dentistry Scholarship In 1991 Bess H. Floyd established a scholarship in honor of her husband, Dr. Phil Floyd, to provide for the recognition and furtherance of excellence in the field of dentistry, including dental hygiene. One letter of recommendation must be from a professional practitioner in your area of interest. Must be a resident of Fairfield County. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Fannie M. Howe Nursing Scholarship This fund was created to honor Fannie M. Howe. She was the “original” visiting nurse in Lancaster during the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. She walked all over the city carrying chicken soup and other needed items to the house bound and ill. It was her personal ministry for which she received no compensation. Everyone knew and respected her and at her death, money was given as a memoriam in her honor. Applicants must be a graduate of a Fairfield County high school and pursuing a career in Nursing. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Lancaster Rotary Club Scholarship This scholarship was established in 2004 to make a lasting and significant contribution to students graduating from a Fairfield County High School. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Dr. Paul & Mary Magnuson Scholarship Funds bequeathed by the late Dr. Paul Magnuson have created an endowment for scholarships in Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry and Nursing. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to students enrolled in a program leading to a professional degree. Factors, which may be evaluated, include: academic record, financial need, the applicant’s individual situation and activities. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be a graduate of a Fairfield County high school. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 The Nauman Sampson Wittenberg Scholarship For the purpose of providing educational scholarships for students who have graduated from a high school in Fairfield County and is, or will be, attending Wittenberg University. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Donald I. Rodenbaugh Engineering Scholarship Mr. Rodenbaugh, a Rotarian for 30 years, graduated in 1932 from Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon) in Mechanical Engineering. The majority of his working career was spent as a glass furnace engineer who obtained several patents on processes related to the manufacturing of glass products. Mr. Rodenbaugh’s family has established a Charitable Lead Trust to provide scholarships for students enrolled in a College of Engineering at a state-supported university in Ohio. Recipient must be enrolled as a full time student in a College of Engineering at a state supported school in Ohio and must maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Must be a graduate of a Fairfield County high school. If you are a renewing applicant you do not need to provide financial records, personal statement or letters of recommendation. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Graduates of a Fairfield or Perry County high school are eligible to apply for this engineering scholarship honoring Mr. Sakas, a successful businessman from Baltimore. Preference will be given to biological or legally adopted dependents of Sakas, Inc. employees. The selection decision may be weighted toward those who plan to major at a college or university in the state of Ohio but shall not exclude out of state colleges. A Certified Technical College or University shall be given special consideration. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 George Sakas Memorial Scholarship Jacob Sims Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1967 as a memorial to the late Jake Sims, a prominent Lancaster native and Rotarian. This scholarship is for High School Seniors who plan to attend Ohio University-Lancaster their freshman year and are a graduate of a Fairfield County high school. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Willard "Fuzz" Smith Scholarship This Ohio University-Lancaster scholarship was established in 1998 and was designed for the non-traditional student who may have attended college and dropped out or for the mature student who now realizes he/she needs post-high school education to succeed in life. Recipients are determined on the basis of: desire to achieve a degree, reason for returning to college, career goals, number of years of residency in Fairfield County and financial need. Recipient must be enrolled in 2 courses or a minimum of 6 credit hours per quarter. It is not necessary to be a graduate of a Fairfield County high school. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Clarence and Edna Steenrod Scholarship Dr. Clarence Steenrod’s widow established this fund to recognize the work of her husband who was a distinguished and long-time optometrist in Lancaster. Applicants should have already completed an undergraduate degree and should be starting Optometry school. Must be resident of Fairfield County. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 James & Viola Wayland Accounting & Computer Science Scholarship Funds bequeathed by the late James and Viola Wayland have created an endowment for scholarships in accounting or computer science. James Wayland was a CPA who regularly worked 12-hour days and was very frugal in his lifestyle. He and his wife Viola were greatly influenced by having lived through the Great Depression of the 1930’s. Recipient must maintain an overall GPA of 2.7 or higher and a GPA of 3.2 in designated major area of accounting or computer science. Must be resident of Fairfield County. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Mindi Wendel Memorial Scholarship Don C. and Renee Wendel, Jr. established this fund in 1978 as a memorial to their daughter, Mindi, who was artistically talented. Eligible applicants must be a graduate of a Fairfield County high school and should have exhibited a preference for and an interest in the visual arts by the applicant’s high school activities. Application essay should include information about art courses taken, specific areas of interest in the field of fine arts and honors received in art. Applicants will be required in the screening process to present examples of accomplishments in the visual arts in the form of paintings, sculpture, etc. A portfolio would be most helpful. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Matthew W. Acton Memorial Golf Scholarship This fund was established in memory of Matthew Acton to provide scholarships for a senior golf athlete of any Fairfield County high school, Canal Winchester High School, Circleville High School, Logan Elm High School or Teays Valley High School. This scholarship is for any accredited college, vocational or technical school. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 James Caple Mr. Caple established this scholarship to be used for the purpose of providing scholarships for post-secondary studies to Fairfield County residents who pursue a course of study in classical vocal and instrumental performance. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Robert E. and Marion A. Carr Scholarship Mr. & Mrs. Carr established this scholarship in 2003 for students pursuing a degree in the study of Nursing and/or Teaching/Education. The recipients must be a resident of Fairfield County. This award may be for a four or two year accredited college. Scholarship may be awarded up to four consecutive years; however recipient must reapply each year. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Molly Ann Clark Memorial For the purpose of providing educational scholarships for students meeting the criteria described below: 1. Past participants (racers) of the Lancaster Soap Box Derby, past derby queens or have had a family that either volunteered or served on the board of directors of the Lancaster Soap Box Derby. (List their names and what year they participated or volunteered). 2. Applicants must be between the ages of 17-21 3. Applicants must be from Fairfield, Perry, Pickaway, Hocking, Licking, Athens or Muskingum counties 4. Must demonstrate an interest in community service and volunteerism 5. Applicants meeting the above criteria will be given preference in determining recipients, or a student seeking a degree in substance abuse education may be accepted every even year. Scholarship may be awarded up to three consecutive years; however recipient must reapply each year. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Charles C. and Barbara Claypool Scholarship Established in 1997 to provide a scholarship fund that will make a lasting and significant contribution to certain students seeking educational opportunities in technical fields and especially engineering. Preference shall be given to children of Claypool Electric, Inc. employees and to students who plan on attending Ohio Northern University. Students must reside in Fairfield County (except for children of employees). Make sure to note which parent is employed by Claypool Electric, Inc. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Deputy Ethan Collins Scholarship This scholarship was established in memory of Deputy Ethan Collins by family and friends. Scholarship recipients shall be a graduate of a Fairfield County high school. The scholarship award may be for an accredited school or academy in preparation for a career in Law Enforcement or continuing education in Law Enforcement. The award may be used to pay tuition or for the purchase of items/uniforms needed for course work. THIS SCHOLARSHIP USES A DIFFERENT APPLICATION. PLEASE CHECK WITH OUR OFFICE OR OUR WEBSITE. Davidson-Jaycees Community Service Scholarship The Davidson-Jaycee Support Group established this scholarship with the purpose of providing scholarships to students of any Fairfield County high school who have demonstrated an interest in Community Service through volunteerism. Jaycees and relatives of current or former Jaycees will be given preference in determining recipients. If this applies to you, please provide the name and relationship on the front page of the application. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Leroy & Bernice Ellinger Memorial For the purpose of providing educational scholarships for college students in the manner described below: 1. Applicant must be a college Junior or Senior; 2.Preference given to an accredited 4 year college; 3 Any graduate of a Fairfield County High School or from a High School in Worthington, Ohio; 4. Preference given to a graduate of Lancaster High School; 5. Recipient must have at least a 2.75 GPA as a college Junior. There will be one award of $4,000. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Fairfield County Education Service Center Superintendents’ Scholarship Established in 1999 recipients for the scholarship awards shall be selected by the C.O. Davis Memorial, Paul R. Cummins Memorial and Robert Kalish Committee. The recipients shall be graduates of Fairfield County Local High Schools, shall have attended Fairfield County Local High Schools all four years and have proven scholastic ability. The scholarship award may be made for a four or two year college. A certified technical college education shall also be given special consideration. THERE IS NO APPLICATION FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP. IT WILL BE AWARDED THROUGH THE SUPERINTENDENT’S OFFICE. Lorelei Owen Gibbs Scholarship This fund was established in 2012 for residents of Fairfield County pursuing a university degree in Elementary Education or Nursing. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Bud Goodman Memorial Scholarship To be eligible for this scholarship recipients shall have exhibited a livestock project at the Fairfield County Fair for a minimum of three years and be a resident of Fairfield County. A minimum grade point of 2.5 is required. Please mention in your personal statement what you exhibited at the fair. The scholarship award may be made to a 4 year or 2 year college program or for an accredited vocational or technical school. Scholarship will pay for tuition and for the purchase of books, equipment or tools needed for course work. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 J. Jay Hampson Memorial Scholarship Ohio Northern University - Mr. Hampson, a local attorney, bequeathed funds along with contributions from family and friends to establish a scholarship fund at his alma mater. This scholarship is to assist qualified students from Fairfield County. This scholarship is awarded through Ohio Northern University. Please contact the University. Robert Knisley Fire Service Scholarship The Lancaster Professional Firefighters’ I.A.F.F. Local 291 established this scholarship in 2007 as a memorial to the late Robert “Bobby” Knisley, a former Lancaster Firefighter. This Scholarship is for graduates of a Fairfield County high school who want to pursue a career in the fire service and are attending a college pursing a fire science degree or a vocational school pursuing a state of Ohio certification in a fire or EMS field. Children of present/former Lancaster Fire Department members will be given preference and can be graduates of any high school. Please make note on your application if you are a child of a fire department member. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Keith Kumler Vocational Scholarship Family and friends established this scholarship in memory of Keith Kumler for students who will be attending an accredited vocational or technical school for study in the automotive field. Must be resident of Fairfield County. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Kiwanis Club of Lancaster Scholarship - Dr. & Mrs. Glenn Burns established this fund for scholarships in Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, Nursing or Veterinary Medicine to Fairfield County graduates. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Dr. & Mrs. Glenn Burns Officer Brett Markwood Scholarship This Scholarship was formed by Officer Brett Markwood’s family and friends after Officer Markwood was shot in the line of duty. This scholarship is for Fairfield County students to attend a police academy, a technical school for law enforcement training or a four year college in a law enforcement related field. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Ruth E. Miller Scholarship This scholarship shall be for the purposes of providing an opportunity for a college and university education for persons from Lancaster and Fairfield County whose financial condition is such that they would not otherwise be able to procure a college or university education without the scholarship. Preference should be given to those applicants who have demonstrated the qualities of hard work, scholastic attainment, Christian moral values, and love of family and country. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Mt. Pleasant Kiwanis Scholarship To provide scholarships to graduates of Fairfield County high schools or residents of Fairfield County who graduate from high schools outside the county in the manner described below: 1. The high school and school the student plans to attend must be accredited by the North Central Assoc., Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. 2. The student must be a graduating senior from a Fairfield County high school starting their freshman year of college and entering a school qualified under criteria Current students or students formerly enrolled in a school of higher education are not eligible. Roger Pedigo Memorial To provide educational scholarships for selected high school seniors from Athens, Hocking, Vinton, Fairfield and Franklin Counties who are furthering their education by attending Ohio University in the manner described below: 1. Applicants must have maintained a high school G.P.A. of 3.0 or above 2. Applicants must possess leadership skills and have participated in community service work 3. Special favor will be given to applicants whose families will exhibit financial hardship through the funding of their child's furthering education. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Laverne Raab Scholarship Funds bequeathed by the late Laverne Raab have created an endowment for scholarships for graduates of Fairfield County high schools. Funds are to be used for undergraduate scholarships. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Rushcreek Grange Scholarship This scholarship was formed by the Rushcreek Grange. Scholarship recipients shall be a graduating senior from a Fairfield County high school who desires to continue their education and is a resident of Rushcreek Township, for at least 12 months prior to application. The committee shall make its selection based upon academic achievement and the financial situation of the applicants. It is the desire of the Rushcreek Grange that the recipient be alcohol, tobacco and drug free. The scholarship award may be made for a four year, two year, or technical college education. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Brian Stoner Memorial Scholarship This fund was created in 2011 to memorialize Brian Stoner, a Pickerington resident and entrepreneur. Brian’s life was full of varying passions, but family and food consistently outranked all of them. This scholarship is targeted toward students who are planning to, or are attending culinary school as well as students who have been diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum. Current and former employees of Rule (3) and their families are also encouraged to apply. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Hannah E. Thrash Scholarship This scholarship is to provide scholarships to enhance excellence in music with an emphasis on voice. Eligible applicants must be a resident of Fairfield County and should have exhibited a preference for and an interest in vocal music by the applicant’s high school activities. Application essay should include information about music courses taken and honors received DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Dr. Martha Gesling Weber Scholarship Family, friends and former students established this memorial scholarship to recognize the accomplishments of Dr. Weber in the field of Education with emphasis on Reading Education. Special consideration will be given to students attending Bowling Green State University, but the scholarship may be used at any state university. Considerable weight will be given to the candidate’s course schedule and involvement in the elementary or secondary schools while requiring a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Must be resident of Fairfield County. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Weis Family Scholarship Established by Forest M. Weis to provide funds for scholarships to be awarded to persons residing in Fairfield County, Ohio and who have graduated from a high school in Fairfield County to attend Ohio University or one of its branches. Guidelines for selection of recipients are as follows: All selections will be made on a basis of need and academic merit, all recipients shall be enrolled as a fulltime student, all recipients must have had at least a 3.0 grade point average in high school, all recipients must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average in college, recipients shall attend Ohio University-Lancaster for their first two years, if reasonable, before transferring to Ohio University Athens or other state supported college or university in Ohio. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Edgar A. Work, Sr. Scholarship Mr. Work was the holder of many patents and a lifelong resident of Fairfield County who provided this opportunity for young people to study at his alma mater. Special consideration shall be given to those graduates who have been accepted and plan to attend the School of Engineering at Purdue University. Must be a graduate of a Fairfield County high school and majoring in Engineering. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 LIBERTY UNION HIGH SCHOOL Billy J. Holbrook Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is to honor the memory of Billy J. Holbrook who died in a car accident on Thanksgiving 1998. This is a $500.00 scholarship to be awarded to a senior at Liberty Union High School. No GPA requirements. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Edward N. Sands Scholarship The Trustees of the Ed Sands fund encourage residents of Liberty UnionThurston school district who feel they have a financial need to apply. They must be attending an Ohio tax supported institution of higher learning. Applications for this scholarship are available at the Liberty Union Guidance Office or on the Fairfield County Foundation website. DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2015 Chad Welch Memorial Scholarship As a memorial to Chad Welch, a scholar-athlete at Liberty-Union, this scholarship honors students who have excelled in athletics and academics at Liberty Union. Include in your application your athletic participation at Liberty Union and the years of involvement in each sport. (List sports & years of involvement).
