There are new procedures which must be followed in forming a student organization. A group wishing to be recognized by UCA must submit an application and a typed copy of a constitution stating the purposes for which the organization is to be formed to the Office of Student Life in
Student Center Suite 207.
In order to be recognized as a new UCA group, the organization must:
Complement the University's mission.
Have a clear purpose.
Demonstrate an unmet need that is not duplicated by another student group or campus department.
Comply with all local, state and federal laws.
Involve activities that do not create undue risk or liability to the
University.
Have a separate President, Financial Officer, Faculty or Staff
Advisor, and eight (8) Signatory Members.
Upon request, groups submit budgets and other information based on the type and complexity of the organization.
Create a name that clearly represents the function of the student group.
The Office of Student Life will verify that all university requirements for recognition have been met. If everything is in order, the Office of
Student Life will notify the Student Government Association and the
University Student Life Committee of the group's request to be recognized. If the Student Government Association and University
Student Life Committee do not challenge the application for recognition, the group will be recommended to the administration for recognition.
Recognition requires that local organizations affiliated with a national organization must have a local constitution and/or by-laws that are in accordance with and do not conflict with the University of Central
Arkansas' policies and procedures. If there are any questions involving the above stated conditions, recognition of the group will not be completed until it is referred to the University Student Life Committee for review.
Recognized student organizations must comply with all applicable federal and state nondiscrimination and equal opportunity laws.
Recognition signifies that the organization agrees to prohibit discrimination against a member or prospective member on the basis of age, disability, race, color, religion, national origin, marital status, veteran status, or gender (except as specifically exempted by law).
However, recognized student organizations may limit its membership to students who support or share the organization‘s religious, political, or other legally protected views, consistent with the First Amendment.
1.
Obtain RSO application, signature sheet, and sample constitution at http://uca.edu/rso/start-a-new-rso/. a.
Provide the required information for application and signature sheet. b.
Create group constitution. c.
Submit RSO application, signature sheet, and constitution to the Office of Student Life in Student Center Suite 207.
2.
Constitution is reviewed by the Coordinator of Student
Organizations and or Graduate Assistant (GA).
If corrections are needed: a.
Student organizer will set up a meeting and review corrections with Coordinator or GA b.
Student organizer makes changes and submits revised constitution
3.
Revised constitution is sent to Dean of Students and Student
Government Association (SGA) President for review.
4.
Reviewed constitution is sent back to the Office of Student Life.
If corrections are needed: a.
Student organizer and Coordinator or GA meet again to review corrections b.
Student organizer makes changes and submits revised constitution
5.
RSO application, signature sheet, and final draft of constitution are submitted to the Coordinator of Student Organizations to be signed.
6.
An email notifying student organizer of group approval and the need for officer registration and background check is sent. Note:
Group is not officially recognized until RSO Officer Registration
Form & Background Check Form are complete and submitted.
7.
Student organizer will receive an email confirming the group as an official RSO.
