University of Southern Maine Job Description Title: Department: Location: Work Schedule: LEARNING LAB DIRECTOR, SEHD School of Education and Human Development Gorham campus Part-time: 20 hours per week to include 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on up to four school days per week during the academic year. Regular office hours during the week will be set up to help facilitate communication with parents. Other hours, allocated to supervision of tutors and training sessions will be determined based on graduate student schedules. Schedule will align with Gorham School calendar. Organizational Relationships Reports to: SMART Faculty Coordinator Supervises: Graduate Student Tutors Coordinates with: Southern Maine K-12 Schools, K-12 students, Parents of referred students, graduate students, OSP, SEHD and CMHS Dean’s office staff, SEHD administrative staff. STATEMENT OF THE JOB: The Learning Lab Director oversees the operation of the Learning Lab and ensures that all aspects of lab management, inclusive of validated methods of reading instruction and practices are provided to k-12 students. The Director supervises, plans daily work assignments, and provides performance feedback to graduate student tutors. The Director oversees and reviews K-12 student progress data and is responsible for communicating results to students and parents. The Director will summarize Learning Lab events in an annual report. The Director is also responsible for coordinating webinars related to reading instruction. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Overseeing daily USM/SEHD Learning Lab program operations Selecting and procuring reading instruction materials Supervising tutors daily work assignments Providing regular feedback to tutors about work performance Serving as the contact person for all USM/SEHD Learning Lab services and operations Summarizing and interpreting reading assessment data Assigning students to reading instruction groups Assisting tutors with daily lesson plans and progress monitoring Reviewing student progress data and communicating results to students and parents Summarizing USM/SEHD Learning Lab events for the entire school year in an annual report Responsibilities related to supporting in-service educators, include: Coordinating 4 webinars related to reading instruction per year ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties as reasonably assigned. BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES: The USM/SEHD Learning Lab Director is responsible for working with the SMART Faculty Coordinator to ensure that program development/delivery expenses align with established overall operation budget expectations. The Director is also responsible for preparing budget reports and maintaining records of activities. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will supervise and assign work to graduate student tutors. PUBLIC AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES RELATED TO JOB PERFORMANCE: The USM/SEHD Learning Lab Director is expected to be up-to-date on current issues relative to the general K-12 education community and the University in general through attendance at relevant meetings, workshops, conferences, seminars, and professional training sessions. INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS: This position requires the Director to meet with internal and external constituents to fulfill the key initiatives which are to support graduate student tutors in the delivery of basic early literacy skills to K-12 students. Comprehensive and effective writing and verbal communication skills QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Doctorate in school psychology, special education, or closely related field; training and expertise with direct instruction reading practices; knowledge and expertise with the Dynamic Indication of Basic early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) system; experience working in schools; experience with the supervision of others; and strong interpersonal skills; current Maine 093 School Psychologist-Doctoral certificate.
