Beginning fall 2014, we will travel through time chronologically starting with creation and arriving at the Resurrection by year-end. In Jan 2015, we will travel together beginning with early church establishment and ending with the Middle Ages by summer break. Along our trip together, we will learn about the geography of places we study as well as music and art. Remember this is at least a 2-year journey. The second year will include the Renaissance, Reformation, and American History as well as a study of art and music from these times and places. More geography will also be included through year 2. Students who complete this 2-year journey will have earned credit for World History, American History, Bible as an elective, Music Appreciation, Art Appreciation, and Geography. The only charge for the first year of this journey will be a supply fee to cover the cost of copies, art supplies, notebooks, notecards and a few other items. I will be using the Mystery of History Volumes 1 and 2 as the main history resource for this adventure during the first year together. Parents will be provided with a supplemental list of books and DVDs related to our topics of study. These resources are not required but hopefully parents and students can choose books or movie titles that interest them as we journey together. Students will be given a user name and password, and directed to the secure website www.tarateaches.com for assignments, related info, and audio files of all lessons for easy listening. Worksheets, pre-tests, and post-tests will be provided to each student. Parents can decide which sheets they prefer students complete. Parents will also be provided access to an “answer key” for the handouts. Parents will be responsible for grading the worksheets and calculating semester and final grades for their student. Students will also be given black and white timeline figures to color, cut out, and paste to a note card. They can fill in any info they learn about each event or person on each notecard. The notecards will serve as a keepsake timeline of our historical journey. Students will work on their timeline both years of study. We may be able to travel together to some historical places such as our nation’s capitol, or even Europe in 2-3 years. One mother has already agreed to begin researching travel to Europe for our group I pray our time together will be productive, beneficial, and fun! History should be a fun topic, not a burdensome one.
