Mt. and Magazine Ranger Districts ********** RESPONSE DATE EXTENDED TO: October 21, 2015 ********** The Ozark-St. Francis National Forest is outreaching for qualified individuals and will soon be advertising a Zone Recreation Program Manager position (GS-0101/0401/0807-11). This is a Not-To-Exceed (NTE) full-time position 1 Year with up to 4 additional optional years. This selected candidate for this position could also become permanently assigned without further competition. The duty station is Ozark, Arkansas. If candidate is outside the commuting area, government housing may be available. The position will be supervised by the District Ranger. Duties: The position will be responsible for recreation program management on one or more ranger districts. This includes planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreation program/project activities. Identifies need for, analyzes, and recommends schedules and priorities within Forest recreation programs. Assures all program management activities remain responsive to identified customer needs. Position is also responsible for preparing project scopes of work, budgets, work activities and schedules in consultation with the forest program coordinator and budget specialists. Develops and maintains effective external cooperative relationships with government agencies; Provides expertise and advice in the administration of special use programs and projects; Participates on interdisciplinary teams for considering all alternatives in the resource project description and design. Position is also responsible for supervising 4-8 employees. About the Districts: The Boston Mountain Ranger and Mt. Magazine Ranger Districts encompass about 439,000 acres in the proclamation boundaries with 142,000 of private lands included. There are actually four geographically separated units – Main division, Lee Creek and Wedington on the Boston Mtn. as well as Mt. Magazine Ranger District itself. The Boston Mtn. and Mt. Magazine Districts have six developed recreation areas, two OHV riding areas, numerous dispersed recreation sites, and active concessionaire permits as well as an active recreation/outfitter guide permitting program. Duty Station: The district office is located in the community of Ozark, a town of about 3,500 located on the banks of the Arkansas River. Ozark is located approximately 40 miles east of Fort Smith AR, and about 50 miles west of Russellville, AR. Little Rock, AR, the state capitol, is located about 120 miles to the east of Ozark. Ozark has one public elementary school, one middle school, one high school and Arkansas Tech University, Ozark Campus. Most major religious denominations are represented in the area. Mercy Hospital-Turner Memorial provides modern health care services. Dentists, chiropractors, and optometrists have practices in the area. Major medical services are available in Fort Smith, 41 miles west of Ozark. There is one small airport, and 3 motels and 3 bed and breakfasts in Ozark. The average winter temperature in the area is about 40o with an average daily minimum of 31o. In summer the average daily temperature is 85o, with an average daily maximum temperature of 92o.
