Pick one of the following projects to complete.
Project 1: Rules of Exponents Display
Create a way to display all the laws of exponents. You can create a poster, create a computer
presentation, create a digital file for display, or create a booklet (some other teacher-approved method is
possible as well) for displaying all the rules of exponents together. The following should be included:






Definition of Base
Definition of Exponent
Product Rule
Quotient Rule
Power to Power Rule
a
k x y
Each rule should be defined by title,
algebraic representation of rule, and an
example of the rule (note: examples from
class or homework are NOT allowed on
this display—please use original
examples).




Fraction Power to Power Rule
Zero Exponent Rule
Negative Exponent Rule
Rational Exponent Rule
You may do this individually or with one
partner.
Rubric for grading Project 1: Rules of Exponents Display
70% All information included
20% All examples correct
10% Attractiveness of display/Usefulness to others
Project 2: Storybook Exponent Rules
Write a fictional story—topic is choice of the author (topic and story should be suitable for school work). Within
the contents of the story, use the laws of exponents (these laws can be written out directly, or pulled into the
storyline numerically or through examples that show the rules at work). Stories should be complete. Illustrations
are optional. The following should be included:

All books should be book quality. You can use software to create your book and turn in a digital file (be sure the
file is in a format that my computer will read), use online resources to create a book and turn in a digital file or
link, or turn in a physical book you have created (MUST be neat and stapled or bound together).

Project 3: Exponent Rules Comic Strip
Create a comic strip that contains a minimum of 10 panels. Within the comic strip, use the laws of exponents.
The character(s) must be clearly drawn and there must be element(s) of humor, irony, or drama. The following
should be included:


Definition of Base

(be sure the file is in a format that my computer will read), use online resources to create a comic strip and turn in
a digital file or link, or turn in a physical comic strip you have created (MUST be neat and NOT done in pencil).

Project 4: Travel Brochure for Exponentland
You are going on a vacation to the exotic country of Exponentland. When you get there, the citizens are up in
arms because of all the silly tourists who keep breaking the laws of the land. They commission you to make a
tourist brochure laying out all the laws of the country.
In your brochure, you must include the following:
A. Explain all of the following rules:
o Product Rule
o Quotient Rule
o Power to Power Rule
o
k
x y
o

Fraction Power to Power Rule
Zero Exponent Rule

example of the rule (note: examples from
class or homework are NOT allowed on

You may do this individually or with one
partner.
B. Come up with consequences if tourists break the rules (be creative, but school appropriate)
C. Pick 3 rules and show the ways in which tourists have commonly broken those 3 rules so that future tourists
know not to do it again.
Be as creative as you wish. You may include pictures or descriptions of the country; just make sure to include all
the rules on the list above. You may do this brochure on paper or you may do it electronically using some type of
brochure program. You must turn in a hard copy if done on the computer. If you do it by hand, make sure that
your handwriting is neat and legible, that the brochure is well organized, and that there are not a lot of smudges,
crumples or erasures.
