Humanities Subcommittee (Donovan, Money, Youngblood) Report and Recommendations Existing Humanities (Aesthetics) Outcomes Description: The LSSU graduate demonstrates an awareness and appreciation of creativity and an acquaintance with its various expressions in art, music, literature and other cultural forms. The graduate is capable of recognizing and critically evaluating the qualities and products of human creativity and the role that social forces play in determining aesthetic values. The graduate recognizes and appreciates the inherent aesthetic qualities of nature. Current General Education Aesthetics Outcome and Course Matrix: Outcome Aesthetics Core Courses Course covering period through Renaissance, including experiential component (4) Distributional Courses Elective, including courses in specialized areas, e.g., art, music, world civilization and courses representing non-western works and/or women (3-4) Proposed Humanities Outcomes Description: The LSSU graduate is able to describe the historical development of human thought and analysis of values, comprehend human creativity and its various expressions in art, music, literature and other cultural forms, and recognize, analyze and critically evaluate the products of human creativity and the role that social forces play in determining aesthetic values.
