Dear Cooperating Teacher:
Thank you for agreeing to serve as a cooperating teacher in our Senior Student Teaching
Internship II field experience. As a small token of our appreciation, The College of New
Jersey awards honoraria to all cooperating teachers.
Effective fall, 2010 semester, the College administration has approved the granting of a
one (1) graduate credit tuition voucher to cooperating teachers in lieu of the $250.00
honorarium. Cooperating teachers working with senior student teachers and Internship II
students for a half semester will earn a one-half (.5) credit in lieu of the $125.00
honorarium as well as individuals working with Counselor Education and Family
Counseling majors. The credit vouchers can be accumulated and used as tuition payment
for a three (3) credit graduate course. They cannot be used for partial payment or related
fees.
Cooperating teachers working with our student teachers abroad can request a voucher that
can be applied to TCNJ Overseas Graduate Studies courses or for payment of the “TCNJ
Graduate Credit Fee” for courses offered by the Principals Training Center (PTC). A
one (1) credit voucher can be used to off-set the TCNJ portion of payment for a PTC
course for TCNJ graduate credit or three (1) credit vouchers can be used for tuition
payment of a three (3) credit graduate course at an overseas TCNJ Graduate Studies site.
The credit vouchers earned are valid for use up to five years from the date the first credit
voucher is earned. The vouchers can only be used for courses carrying TCNJ graduate
credit on a space available basis.
Please complete the Graduate Credit in Lieu of Stipend Form if you wish to earn a
graduate credit voucher in lieu of a stipend and return the form to Ginny Brown, STEP

Graduate Credit Voucher In Lieu of Honorarium Policy
Effective: September 1, 2010
Cooperating teachers who mentor The School of Education Senior Student
Teachers, Interns and Internship II teacher candidates earn a cash honorarium for
mentoring senior student teachers, Internship II candidates and Counselor
Education candidates. In lieu of the cash honorarium, cooperating teachers can
request a one (1) credit Graduate Credit Tuition Voucher (GCTV) and counselors
can request a (.5) credit Graduate Credit Voucher Tuition Voucher which can be
used in lieu of payment for graduate courses earned from TCNJ.
Regulations for Earning and Using the Graduate Credit Tuition Vouchers
1. One (1) credit TCNJ Graduate Credit Tuition Vouchers (GCTVs) can be earned
“in lieu” of a $250 honorarium earned for mentoring a senior student teacher or
graduate student intern for one full semester or one-half (.5) graduate credit
honorarium for those mentoring a senior student teacher or graduate student intern
for one-half semester.
2. Once the cooperating teacher opts to accept the GCTV it can only be used as
tuition payment for graduate studies and has no cash value.
3. With the exception of a PTC course, teachers cannot use the vouchers until they
have accumulated 3 credits. They may not be used as partial payment of TCNJ
graduate courses.
4. After three vouchers are accrued, they can be redeemed in lieu of payment for a 3
credit graduate course. The vouchers must be redeemed no later than three (3)
years after the final voucher is issued on a space available basis.
5. The STEP Office will generate and monitor a list of the names of cooperating
teachers who accept GCTVs along with their addresses, phone numbers, email
addresses, and school name and address. The list will also include the dates the
vouchers were earned and the name of the student teacher or intern.
6. The GCTV list will be also be on file with Records and Registration and the
Office of Business and Financial Services.
7. The cooperating teacher will inform Records and Registration when s/he registers
for the courses that s/he is planning to use the vouchers in lieu of tuition payment
for the course. GCTVs can only be used in lieu of tuition payment. It cannot be
used to pay for books, materials, or fees.
8. Records and Registration will inform the STEP Office whenever a teacher
registers for a course using the tuition voucher.
9. Cooperating teachers working abroad with Global Student Teachers and Interns
may also select a Graduate Course Tuition Voucher in lieu of an honorarium.
Vouchers can be applied in lieu of payment of the “TCNJ Graduate Credit Fee”
for courses offered by the Principals Training Center (PTC). The overseas
cooperating teacher may also accept one credit GCTVs until 3 are accumulated
and then apply them to any TCNJ graduate course offered in the Global Graduate
Studies program. Global Student Teacher GCTVs are valid for five years from
date of issue on a space available basis and are not transferable.
10. The Step Office will inform the Office of Financial Services of the name of the
teacher and the name of the course for which the teacher is applying the GCTV.
Financial Services will account for the course according to policy and practice.
STEP Office Follow Procedures for Documentation
1.
Names of cooperating teachers requesting a TCNJ Graduate Credit Tuition
Vouchers (GCTVs) will be entered into the STEP Office Graduate Credit
Tuition Voucher database. The coop’s address, email address, name of school
district, the name of the coop’s student teacher, year and semester of student
teacher placement and the date by which the voucher must be used will be
included in the database.
2. The records will be maintained by the STEP Office and shared with the
Offices of Records and Registration and Student Accounts.
3. Upon receipt of the cooperating teachers’ requests for a Graduate Credit
Tuition Voucher, the STEP Office director will provide the cooperating
teacher with a conformation letter along with an official (STEP Office Sealed)
Graduate Credit Tuition Voucher which will include the dates for which the
voucher is valid.
4. The cooperating teachers can utilize the vouchers only on a space available
basis and the cooperating teachers will be informed of this in the confirmation
letter.
5. Copies of the vouchers will be maintained on-file in the STEP Office.

register for your course at TCNJ you can use the voucher in lieu of the tuition payment.
The vouchers can only be used by you for tuition and are not transferable.
