Welcome to Lodge Hill Infant & Nursery School PTA (Parent Teacher
Association).
The PTA consists of parents working with the teachers to raise money for the
school.
When your child joins the school, you automatically become a member of the
PTA, and we hope that you will also become an active supporter of the PTA in
the time that your child is at the school.
People may ask why have a PTA?
The school only has so much money allocated to them each year by the Local
Authority which will cover the basic running of the school. At Lodge Hill Infant &
Nursery School we pride ourselves on maintaining an active & successful PTA
which raises further funds to be used for the direct benefit of the pupils, thereby
enhancing their education. For example, in recent years, we have purchased
both small items (books for each child at Christmas & during World Book Week)
as well as larger items (interactive white boards for each classroom) The sole
purpose of the PTA is to benefit our children and their school.
The PTA Committee
The PTA is led by a committee that is newly elected every September. The
committee consists of a chairperson, secretary, treasurer and deputy treasurer.
Each year we need 4 people to take on these voluntary positions in order for the
1
PTA to continue, but 4 people alone cannot run the PTA. Supporters are vitally
needed and are the backbone of the PTA. Without supporters, we would be
unable to function.
The PTA Committee consists of:
The Chairperson
The chairperson is responsible for overseeing all the events being held; making
sure that everyone knows what they are doing and how to do it. He or she will
chair the PTA meetings, coordinate events & helpers and generally make sure
that meetings & events run smoothly and that help is available. He or she will
keep the parents informed on what amounts have been raised and what the
money has been spent on, usually by way of a newsletter each term.
The Secretary
The secretary is responsible for preparing the agendas for meetings, taking the
minutes at PTA meetings, distributing minutes to committee members and
dealing with correspondence, (for example, sending letters to companies asking
for donations of raffle prizes and letters to parents informing them of
forthcoming events in the school PTA calendar.)
The Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for keeping a record of money received & where is
has come from, how much money has been spent & what it is spent on, and
keeping the account books up to date generally.
The Deputy Treasurer
The Deputy Treasurer supports the Treasurer and is responsible for being aware
of the account transactions generally.
What is asked of a Supporter?
The supporters are the most important part of the PTA. Without support from
the parents, events cannot be held. A supporter will help out at events such as
selling raffle tickets, setting out chairs & tables, serving tea & coffee and
manning stalls at the Annual Summer Fete. These may not seem like a lot of
tasks, but it can make all the difference to an event going ahead or having to be
cancelled. It takes only 4 people to form a PTA committee but it takes many
more to make a successful PTA.
What kind of events do we hold over the school year?
All sorts! Cake sales both for the school and charity, Raffles, Family fun nights,
money in a jar competition, car boot sales, strawberry tea, table top sales,
2
Summer fete and so much more. And we are always open to new ideas! Please
see our latest Newsletter for more information.
What has been paid for by the PTA for the school over the last few
years?
Recordable coombers for each classroom.
Connecting doors between years 1 & 2 classrooms.
Books for Christmas.
Landscaping in the school grounds.
Party day entertainment.
Party day food.
Wet weather gear for years 1 & 2.
Interactive white boards in every classroom.
The re-decorating of the nursery.
New staging.
Container storage shed.
Wet weather gear for reception.
Fencing around the school.
Nature walk for the children.
PE apparatus.
Climbing frame in the hall.
Painting of the school yard.
Out door toys.
Wet weather toys.
Christmas party entertainment & food.
Help towards the new landscaping and the moving of the entrance footpath.
Digital Cameras for each class
Roller Blinds for school hall.
All of this and more has been purchased for the school out of the PTA funds over
the last 6 years alone.
All you need to do is look around the school to see what the children would miss
out on if the PTA was not available.
We need and ask all parents to consider becoming a supporter of the PTA. The
more help we have, the less work there is per person.
If you feel that you would like to support your child’s school PTA by becoming a
committee member or a supporter please fill in the form at the end of this
booklet & return it to a committee member or to the school office.
Thank you, your support is valued and needed.
