Outline for catheterization conferences (Tuesday 7:15-8AM; second Thursday 4pm; Friday 230pm) 1st Tuesday of the month: 2nd, 3rd, +/- 4th Tuesday (if five Tuesdays in a month): Last Tuesday: 2nd Thursday: Fridays: CT Surgery-Interventional conference Interventional cases Didactic Structural Heart Conference Cardiology Conference Tuesday conferences (715am): Attendance at Tuesday morning conference is mandatory for all fellows attending the morning ILH clinic, all UH fellows (including general fellow on EP and research), and Kenner’s fellow (Dr. Sub may excuse the fellow if there is a clinical emergency that needs the fellow to be at Kenner during conference time). The only exceptions are for the fellow assigned to Lafayette, Touro nights, or if assigned to Touro daytime but not in Tuesday morning clinic. Any clinical work needed to prepare patients for procedures should be completed prior to 715am. Attendance will be tracked and reflected in evaluations. Each conference will consist of 3-4 cases presented by the interventional fellow and one of the attendings. Cases will be analyzed in two steps: during the first step, one general cardiology fellow will come up, review the views, answer questions, and make with a diagnosis. Fellows are expected to review relevant general cath material prior to conference. Questions will be tailored to the level of the fellow. On the 2nd step, technical aspects will be analyzed for the interventional fellow but will be of interest to all. A hemodynamic case will be included in many of these conferences, and the fellow will be asked to analyze tracings. One Tuesday every other month will be purely dedicated to hemodynamic cases. One peripheral case may be included as well on many Tuesdays. 2nd Thursday of each month (4pm): Structural Heart conference will be held at this time. Attendance is mandatory for all fellows assigned to ILH that month, though all other fellows are welcome too. This conference focuses on the diagnostic planning and collaborative evaluation of patients with structural heart disease between echocardiography, interventional cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons. Dr. Mercado is in charge of this conference. Fridays (230pm): One Friday per month will have a one-hour “Cath Case Conference,” where two cases with relevant angiographic, interventional or hemodynamic findings will be presented by the general fellow on cath rotation (one case by ILH cath fellow, one by Touro cath fellow). The focus will be on the cath findings, appropriateness, etc. Furthermore, one Friday per month will have a didactic cath conference. Case of the month: In the last week of each month, the interventional fellow, in conjunction with the faculty, will disseminate a “Case of the Month” comprised of an angiographic image and a single ABIM-style question pertaining to the image.
