The Ruth Mitchell Jones Scholarship Fund

Background:
The Ruth Mitchell Jones Scholarship Fund was established in June 1996 by
Vernon and Maralee Jones to honor his mother, Ruth Mitchell Jones. A
second scholarship was established in 1999.
Purpose:
This scholarship fund is to recognize academic achievement and provide
funds for a college-bound student. An amount of $500 per year ($2,000
total over four years) will be paid to the Missouri college of the student's
choice.
Number of Recipients: One at Lee's Summit High School and One at Lee's Summit North High.
Scholarship amount:
To be determined.
Guidelines:
The applicant must be a Lee's Summit graduating senior.
The applicant plans to pursue an education degree and a career in
education.
The applicant plans to attend a Missouri college.
The recipient shall in no way be limited by gender, race, religion, or any
other designation that could exclude an individual.
The applicant must be or must have been involved in civic, community
and extra-curricular activities preferably in an educational program.

Process:
The Selection Committee, consisting of two Foundation board members and
two counselors from the respective high schools, will review the applications
and, if necessary, interview the candidates and obtain any additional background information.
Scholarship Payment: The Scholarship will be made by a Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation
check payable jointly to the recipient and his or her choice of a higher
learning institution. To receive the scholarship check, recipient must send
proof of enrollment to Sheryl Franke, 301 NE Tudor Road, Lee's Summit, MO
64086 each of the four years to receive their $500 annual scholarship award.
