Philanthropy Fellowship FLORA FAMILY FOUNDATION, Menlo Park, CA ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION The Flora Family Foundation (FFF) directs grants throughout the world to organizations working in international development, the environment, education, the advancement of women, and arts, culture and humanities. The foundation awards roughly 140 grants per year, with an average size of $35,000. Sixty percent of the foundation’s grants budget is directed overseas. FFF was created in 1998 to provide a vehicle for the philanthropy of the descendants of Bill Hewlett, co-founder of the Hewlett-Packard Company. The foundation has a staff of three and is co-located with the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation (100 employees) on Sand Hill Road in Menlo Park. More Information: http://www.florafamily.org ROLE OF 2007 FLORA FAMILY FOUNDATION FELLOW The 2007 FFF Fellow will have three primary tasks: (1) analyzing the foundation’s seven-year program of grants in international development to distill lessons learned; (2) researching potential grant candidates for a special round of awards in Bangladesh in February 2008; and (3) reviewing and responding to grantee reports, mainly (but not exclusively) from organizations working abroad. The Fellow will work closely with the foundation’s president, Steve Toben. Note that for this particular placement, juniors and graduating seniors are strongly preferred.
