The first screen of your web survey can make or break your study (Dillman et al 2009). This
course is about how to create a visually effective respondent friendly web questionnaire and how to
implement it in an optimal way. The course also covers general principles of questionnaire design
which apply to web surveys and the unique aspects of web surveys (both the advantages and
disadvantages). Note that although some guidelines are given for web platform software choices,
the main focus of the course in on questionnaire design and other implementation aspects of web
surveys rather than the software.
After this course, participants should
 Have a greater awareness of the different aspects involved in writing good survey questions
and questionnaires for the web
 Have the knowledge to be able to write their own high quality web survey questionnaires
 Have the knowledge to implement their own web survey effectively
 Have the tools to critique existing web survey questionnaires and implementation plans







Format
This course includes lectures, interactive examples, and 2 workshop sessions in which participants
work in small breakout groups.
Registration starts at 09.00 with the course running from 09.30 until 16.30.
