Coach of the Men’s Tennis Team at American University 2001 COACH OF THE YEAR in CAA conference Coach Blackman brings an ‘old school’ back to basics approach to coaching, but enhances it with the latest and most effective techniques in drilling, match play, mental toughness training and conditioning. Coach Blackman will be supported by a staff of expert coaches including a footwork and conditioning expert. Plyo-metrics, interval training, footwork drilling, flexibility training, cross training, competitive seminars, and a college tennis workshop for juniors and seniors (to inform and advise juniors concerning tennis scholarship oppurtunities and NCAA regulations.) will all be incorporated to make the camp the most comprehensive tennis training event your youngster has ever experienced. The idea is to expose your child to the type of training that young tennis prodigies all over the world experience, while balancing the week with the fun sports should provide. Working with Coach Blackman will be two expert coaches. Bear Schofield, the Assistant Men’s Tennis coach was an excellent junior player tennis (no.1 in MATAboys’ 18) and soccer competition. He had an outstanding college career at University of Virginia, where he gained All-Conference honors twice and played no.1 in his senior year. . He has vast experience in developing junior talent, and is considered one of the premiere junior coaches in the DC Metro area. Bobbi Lee, Graduate Assistant for the Women’s Tennis team at AU will also join us. Lee is a four-time letter-winner and twotime captain for George Mason University’s tennis team. Both Bear and Bobbi bring a fresh perspective to junior development, one which emphasizes establishing sound footwork and stroke production at a young age – choosing the development of a strong foundation over short-term goals. Our complete staff will be listed and profiled in our camp brochure.
