YOUNG TENNIS CLUB NEWS
18 May 2011
The Young Tennis Club is saddened by the untimely death of Kelvin Platt. To Trevor, Patty,
Jade and Steve we offer our heartfelt sympathy. Kelv was a member of the YTC for many years. He
loved his tennis. From early on in the junior ranks his name decorates the Championship Board with a
win in the U14 Boy’s Singles in 1993 and again in 1995 with a win in the U16 Boy’s Singles. Kelv
was a member of the McDonalds’ Squads during the inaugural period. He was also selected to
represent the YTC in the Intertown Competition. Trevor tells us of one of his proudest moments when
he partnered his son to win the Wirrimah Doubles. I am sure Kelv’s proudest moment in tennis
occurred when he first beat his dad. He was a well respected, quiet, kind and caring person, known by
all of us here at the YTC. Kelv will be sadly missed by the many people he befriended over his past 32
years.
The new committee is active at the YTC with the President, Angus Golsby, Secretary Katrina
Dorman and Membership Officer Jenene Schiller working with the new ‘My Tennis’ website. This
new website will offer members online registration, regular tennis updates appropriate to the YTC and
many more features. We will bring you more information as it becomes available.
Members are reminded that registration is compulsory for all players, both junior and senior.
These registration fees, in part, assist with YTC upgrades.
The Autumn/Winter Comps are well underway. The evenings have been somewhat fresh but
the players haven’t been deterred. Just a reminder: If you are unable to play please assist Col by
finding a replacement player. Late notice jeopardizes the smooth running of the comp and is a
disappointment to other team members.
