Tennis Class Descriptions Note: The following tennis classes will be taught by one or more of the Assistant Tennis Instructors under the direction of Tennis Director, Marna Katzel. Juniors Tiny Tots (Ages 3-4): Youngsters are introduced to the very basic fundamentals of tennis in a "mini-court" setting. Two instructors provide "hands-on" teaching to ensure a funfilled, positive environment for each class. Rackets and additional Wilson® teaching equipment are provided. The Quick Start tennis format of lower nets and larger foam balls are utilized. Munchkins (Ages 5-6): This junior academy program is designed for fun while still learning with the special Quick Start equipment. With transition balls and transition rackets on a smaller court, greater success is achieved. Rackets will be provided if needed. Come join the fun! Each class is 30 minutes long. Prizes and certificates will be awarded. Champs (Ages 7-10): This class teaches all facets of the game. The children learn the basics of match play while they have fun. Making tennis the "game of a lifetime" can start here. Roddick, the Williams sisters, and Agassi all played in this age group! Junior Future Stars (Ages 11-13): It's still fun, but the learning gets serious. Videotaping is offered for this session. All strokes are taught and analyzed. Come join in the excitement! This is the time to start mastering and refining strokes if you want to be a strong contender for your high-school tennis team. The time is now! Rising Star Program (Ages 14-18): These classes are for both experienced and inexperienced juniors. Classes can be taught at an introductory level for those novices new to tennis even in this older junior age group. Plenty of teenagers would be surprised how fast they could learn tennis by just transferring their natural athletic skills and abilities from their other sports and applying them to the tennis court! Each junior receives a personalized game analysis. Come out and learn the game of a lifetime. Pre-Team (Ages 10 and under) This is the eighth year that the Kentlands will be hosting a Pre-team (10 years & under) tennis team that will compete against other local area tennis clubs. The children will learn how to play tennis matches under parental supervision in a fun and light- hearted way. This is a great way to introduce children to competitive tennis, as they will gain experience to play and progress to the next level of competitive tennis: USTA Junior Team Tennis. The Kentlands Pre-Team will meet and play their matches on Sundays from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. starting in June. The match schedule has not been released, but the season starts at the end of June and runs through the last week of July. There will be an optional, but recommended practice from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm for our team members on the Saturday before every scheduled match. All prospective players must be enrolled in the childrens’ tennis classes or private lessons in order to maintain and sharpen their skills throughout the playing season! The 2010 Boys & Girls Kentlands Tennis/Basketball Day Camp Ages (7-14) We are pleased to present for our 10th year, The Kentlands Tennis/Basketball Camp. The Tennis/Basketball Camp is a carefully designed and integrated approach to the total game of tennis and basketball. Camp begins with the teaching of the basics of both tennis and basketball. The Camp Director is a U.S.P.T.A. certified tennis professional and her associated counselors are local high school and college level tournament tennis players. Basketball instruction is from HoopEd the supplier of certified instructors to well known camps such as Gary Williams and Morgan Wooten. Our instruction is one of the finest in the county. Each camper is evaluated to his/her skill level to ensure proper grouping of students. Students attending the camp will be challenged and will be motivated in a fun environment. Our goal is for all campers to leave camp with new friends, and good memories, and to attain a greater self-confidence and enthusiasm for tennis and basketball. The Tennis/Basketball Camp will introduce a "Stroke of the Day" for tennis players and intensive instruction in skill refinement through passing, shooting, dribbling, rebounding and defensive skill drills for basketball players. Team competition will be incorporated into the daily schedule for both sports with emphasis on improving skills, sportsmanship, leadership, and effort.
