WELCOME NEW PRESIDENT
AT ENROLLMENT
The Cowley Golden Tigers welcome our new
President to Cowley College. Dr. Rittle is the fifith
president of the college. He comes to the college
from Ozarka College in Melbourne, Arkansas.
You will have the opportunity to meet the President
on Wednesday, August 26th from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. in
the Earle Wright Room. Plan to visit the President
before or after you enroll for Golden Tiger activities.
DRIVER SAFETY CLASS
September 29 & 30

The AARP Driver Safety class will be offered
Tuesday & Wednesday, September 29 & 30 from
1:00 – 5:00 p.m. The class will be held at the
Winfield Chamber. The Chamber Office is located
at 123 E. 9th in Winfield. Ron Upton will teach the
class. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20
for non-members.
The Driver Safety program is an 8-hour classroom
refresher course. You must attend both sessions to
receive a certificate. Insurance companies in Kansas
give a discount to seniors on your car insurance
upon class completion.

Is your mailing address current? Do you only have a
cell phone? If you address or phone number changes,
please update your information at the Golden Tiger
office. You can call the office or send an email to
neal@cowley.edu to make the changes.
FALL ENROLLMENT
Wednesday, August 26th
Enrollment for the Fall Semester will be held on
Wednesday, August 26th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. in
the Brown Center, Earle Wright Room. You may
enroll by phone or mail after August 26th.
If you are only interested in taking classes, you may
want to come later in the afternoon to enroll. The
line will be much shorter after 2:00 p.m.
Fees for classes and trips are paid at enrollment.
There is a $5.00 registration fee and $2.00 per class
fee. Some classes have additional costs or supplies
needed.
Here are some guidelines for enrollment:



Complete the enrollment form. Be sure to
include your Cowley ID number, date of birth,
middle name.
Put your label or write your name on all class
and trip sign up sheets.
Fill out the “Consent & Release Form” if you
are participating in any trips.
REFUND POLICY
CLASSES: Refunds are not given if you are
unable to attend a class. However, you may
transfer to another class if space is available.
TRIPS: Refunds for trips are given only for
family emergency, illness or death in family.
We greatly appreciate a substitute in your
place if at all necessary.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION
New Teachers – We have several new teachers this
semester. They are Deb Holman, Fred Taylor and
LaDona Anstine. We greatly appreciate all the
teachers that give their time and talent to the Golden
Tiger program.
Classes & Trips – Plans have not been finalized for
all the classes and trips. Be sure to check for any
changes at enrollment.
Class Attendance – Class attendance is not required;
however, instructors work hard to prepare for these
classes. Please let your instructor know if you cannot
attend a class session. If the college is closed due to
bad weather, we will not hold classes. Information is
available on local radio and television stations.
ID Numbers – Cowley ID numbers have been used
for several semesters. The ID number is a 999
number followed by a randomly assigned six-digit
number. If you have taken classes in the last few
years we will have your number available. Social
Security numbers can also be used.
Sign Up Sheets – Please be sure to put your name
on the sign up sheets for classes and trips. This is
The only way to determine if space is available
during enrollment. If your name is not on the sign
up sheet and the class is actually full, your name
will be put on the waiting list.
Senior Gold Card – The Senior Gold Card is
available in Galle Johnson. This card is for all
Cowley County citizens, 65 and over, to attend
Cowley College sporting events and school related
performances in the Robert Brown Theatre at no
charge.

EDUCATIONAL TRIPS
Thursday, September 24 – Wichita, KS
The “Keeper of the Plains” plaza will be our first stop
to learn more about this beautiful statue and the
Plains Indians. The rest of the day we will enjoy
participating in the Senior Expo at the various
Museums on the River. We will enjoy seeing the fall
gardens and butterfly house in the morning at
Botanica. The group will have lunch at a local
restaurant and then head back to the Wichita Art
Museum and/or Exploration Place. This is an
excellent way to learn about senior services as well as
enjoy the museums. We will plan to leave at 8:00
a.m. and return around 5:00 p.m. Cost - $30
(includes lunch)
Thursday, October 22 – Bentonville, AR
You won’t want to miss this trip to Bentonville, AR to
tour the beautiful Crystal Bridge Museum. This will be
a long day but it is an outstanding museum. We will
have a guided tour of the museum and then you will
have time to explore on your own. The museum
features works by major American artists. There are
also several walking trails to explore. We will also visit
the Wal-Mart Museum in Bentonville before heading
home. Plan to leave at 6:45 a.m. and return by 10:00
p.m. Cost - $50 (includes lunch)
Friday, December 4 – Wichita, KS
Our holiday trip will feature the “The Great
American Trailer Park Christmas Musical” at Roxy’s
Downtown in Wichita. The story takes place in
Armadillo Acres (North Florida’s premier mobile
living community). A freak bout of amnesia strikes
the trailer park Scrooge and neighborly love is put to
the test. Betty, Lin and Pickles jingle all the way with
some new neighbors in the all American Trailer Park
Musical. It will be a fun evening with lots of laughs.
We will depart at 4:45 p.m. and return around 10:30
p.m. Cost - $50 (includes dinner)

Aqua Fun (Session I) – Monday, Wednesday, Friday,
September 2, 4, 9, 11, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, 25, 28 and
30, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Family Aquatics Center,
ACHS. Debbi Davidson, Instructor. Participants will
be led by trained personnel through a series of
specially designed exercises that can help increase
joint flexibility and improve mobility. There will be a
$3.00 pool fee for this class.
Aerobics (Session I) – Monday and Wednesday,
September 2, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28 and 30, 1:30 –
2:30 p.m., Ben Cleveland Wellness Center. Rikki
Hettenbach, Instructor. This energetic and upbeat
class is sure to get your body moving. It’s fun and
easy with a mix of 50”s – 90’s music that combine
dancing, cardio and light weights for a great total
body workout.
Exercise – (Session I) – Tuesday & Thursday,
September 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24 and 29, 1:30 –
2:30 p.m., Ben Cleveland Wellness Center. LaDona
Anstine, Instructor. Class participants will work on
exercises to promote joint stability, muscular
strength and endurance, balance, coordination,
cardiovascular function and respiratory health.
Mah Jongg Players – Wednesday, September 9, 16,
23, 30, October 7, 14, 21, 28, November 4, 11, 18,
and December 2, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., Webb – Brown
Academic Center – Room 207. Margaret Neal –
Instructor. This class is for experienced Mah Jongg
players and participants will continue to learn game
strategies and improve their game.
Beginning Mah Jongg – Wednesday, September 9,
16, 23, 30, October 7 & 14, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., Webb
– Brown Academic Center – Room 207. Margaret
Neal, Instructor. This is a popular game played with
tiles and a game card. Instructions will be covered in
the first few sessions and then participants will
continue to meet and play the game.
Computer Skills for Today – Wednesday,
September 9, 16, 23, 30 and October 7 & 14, 1:30 –
3:30 p.m., Webb-Brown Academic Center, Room
105. Larry Schwintz, Instructor. Learn the basic
computer skills you need to survive in today’s society.
You’ll discover practical applications for creating
word documents and how to create and organize
files.
Turkey Wallhanging – Thursday, September 10 &
17, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Ark City Senior Center,
Sue Carpenter, Instructor. Create a fun turkey for
Thanksgiving. This colorful bird will make a great
decoration for your wall or table. Sewing machine &
tools needed. A complete supply list will be available
at enrollment.
Beginning Pinochle – Monday, September 14, 21,
28, October 5 & 12, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Webb –
Brown Academic Center, Room 207. Deb Holman,
Instructor. Students will learn how to play the game
of pinochle. Basic rules, how to count, melt and take
tricks will be covered.
Spanish Conversation – Monday, September 14, 21,
28 and October 5 & 12, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m., Webb –
Brown Academic Center, Room 207. Deb Holman,
Instructor. This basic class will allow students to
share information about family, work, shopping and
travel as speaking skills are covered in class. A
Spanish/English dictionary is needed for this class.

Hathaway, Instructor. Do you enjoy taking pictures
