Missouri Junior Science, Engineering and Humanities Symposium Scholarship and Award Parameters Missouri Regional Scholarships and Award Eligible JSEHS regional University of Missouri scholarship 1st and 2nd place session winners must: Currently be a high school senior (1st and 2nd place winners). Plan to enroll at UM-St. Louis, UM-Kansas City, or UM-Rolla. Have a GPA meeting the University of Missouri requirements. For the regional finalists (Six, 1st place winners): An expense-paid trip to the National JSHS, awarded to six finalists at the regional symposium. Lopata Creativity Award A total $6,000 in undergraduate, tuition scholarships, awarded at $2500, $1500, $1000, and $1000 to each of four Missouri regional symposium finalists (scholarship payable upon matriculation to the University of Missouri-St. Louis.) Teacher Awards Program A $500 teacher award and certificate will be presented to one teacher with no stipulation as to its use as an award. The teacher will be given expense paid trip to the National Symposium. National Scholarship (Overall 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners given at Missouri Regional) For the regional finalists (1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners): An invitation to present their original research investigation at the National JSHS, awarded to the 1st and 2nd place regional finalists. A total $4,500 in undergraduate, tuition scholarships, awarded at $2,000, $1,500, and $1,000 to each of three regional symposium finalists (scholarship payable upon matriculation and upon meeting the JSHS scholarship conditions). Foreign nationals may continue to present their research for the recognition with the continued understanding that foreign nationals are not eligible to receive the military-sponsored scholarship funds. Eligible JSHS regional national scholarship winners must: Maintain a GPA equivalent to a “B” (i.e. 3.0 on a 4.0 scale). Demonstrate the status of full-time enrollment in an accredited institution. Pursue a degree in the sciences, engineering, or mathematics. Hold U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. National Scholarship (Winners at National Symposium) For the national finalists: Six $16,000 undergraduate, tuition scholarships are awarded to each of the 1st place finalists in the National research paper competition. Six $6,000 undergraduate, tuition scholarships are awarded to each of the 2nd place finalists in the National research paper competition. Six $2,000 undergraduate, tuition scholarships are awarded to each of the 3rd place finalists in the National research paper competition. An expense-paid trip to the London International Youth Science Forum, an exchange program bringing together over 400 participants from 60 nations. The London trip is awarded to each of the 1st place National finalists; the runner-ups are alternate winners. Granger Science Teacher Development Award Up to $2,500 scholarship award to the students selected to present their research paper in the JSHS Behavior concurrent session based on need, commitment to obtain teacher certification in the sciences at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and relevance of their research to learning theory, teaching practices, curriculum development, learning/teaching assessment or other finding of pedagogical importance. Missouri State Great Science Debate The winning team will be awarded $1,000 for their science department and the runner-up team $500. Missouri American Water Student Research Grant Program Students may apply for a grant through the JSEHS for up to $100 to fund materials and supplies needed to conduct their research on a topic related to water. Missouri American Water Research Award for High School Students The top paper, as judged by Missouri American’s Water Quality staff, will be recognized with a plaque, a $500 award for the student and a $500 award for the sponsoring teacher. Students Show-me Science Skills The first-place winner, individual or group, will receive a $100 honorarium.
