JOB TITLE: Environmental Project Officer , Acid Sulfate Soils CLASS: PO1 POSITION NUMBER: EHXXXX REPORTS TO: Project Officer – Acid Sulfate Soils LOCATED: Adelaide Metro AGENCY: Department for Environment and Heritage PROJECT: Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth Project POSITIONS REPORTING TO THIS POSITION Nil PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Environmental Project Officer, Acid Sulfate Soils, assists in the preparation of acid sulfate soil management response for the Lower Lakes component of the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth (CLLMM) Projects and to other significant and on-ground projects related to the CLLMM area. KEY OUTCOMES Undertake research relating to the science and investigation for acid sulfate soils. Provide support into the development of management plans to ensure that current and appropriate methodologies and techniques are incorporated into their design, implementation and analysis. Provide support to inform policy development for on-ground works and investigations. Provide project support to the Acid Sulfate Soils Project Officer and Principal Scientific Advisor. Date ……./….…/…..… SELECTION CRITERIA Appropriate degree in natural resource management, science or equivalent is essential; relevant postgraduate studies are desirable. Demonstrated organisational skills, particularly relating to achieving milestones and timelines. Ability to cope with high workloads under changing circumstances, and meet set and ad hoc deadlines. Well developed written and verbal communication skills, including writing for scientific and non-scientific readers. Ability to work effectively with stakeholders to achieve positive, coordinated outcomes, and to operate as an effective member of a team. Knowledge of water and wetland management principles. Experience in ecological restoration projects and natural resource manage is highly desirable. Knowledge of soil chemistry and acid sulfate soil management is highly desirable. Practical experience with Environmental Systems Research Institute’s (ESRI) ArcGIS software is highly desirable. Experience in environmental data capture, validation and management is highly desirable.
