SPEC NOTE: This Guide Specification includes materials and methods for the application of Aqua-Bloc SB
(770-06), a cold applied elastomeric waterproofing membrane system. Typical applications include below grade tunnels, foundations, plaza decks, planters and parking structures preventing the penetration of water under hydrostatic pressure. This specification should be adapted to suit the requirements of individual projects. It is prepared in CSI-NMS three part format and should be included as a separate section under
Division 7-Thermal and Moisture Protection.
PART 1: GENERAL

The Specification shall be read as a whole by all parties concerned. Each Section may contain more or less than the complete work of any trade. The Contractor is solely responsible to make clear to the Subcontractors the extent of their work.

1.05 Submittals
A. Prior to commencing the Work, submit copies of manufacturers current certification to ISO.
Membrane, primers, sealants, adhesives and associated auxiliary materials shall be included.

Prior to commencing the Work, submit references clearly indicating that the materials proposed have been installed for not less than five years on projects of similar scope and nature. Submit references for a minimum of ten projects.
Prior to commencing the Work, submit manufacturers complete set of standard details for sheet waterproofing.

Submit requests for alternate to this specification a minimum of fifteen (10) working days prior to tender closing for evaluation. Include a list of 25 projects executed over the past ten
(10) years.
Acceptable alternates will be confirmed by addendum. Substitute materials not approved in writing prior to tender closing shall not be permitted for use on this project.
SPEC NOTE: This Guide Specification includes a standard contractor’s 2 year warranty and manufacturer’s 5 year material warranty. An extended 10 year material warranty (5 + 5) is available for multi-ply systems provided Henry Drain Board systems are installed over the waterproofing membrane in accordance with the manufacturers written instructions.
1.11 WARRANTY
A. For the Work of this Section, the 12 months warranty period prescribed in subsection GC 32.1 of General Conditions “C” is extended to [24 months] [60 months].

Contractor hereby warrants the waterproofing membrane for leak coverage in [accordance with GC24], but for two years.
Waterproofing membrane manufacturer hereby warrants the waterproofing membrane for leak coverage as a result of faulty materials for a period of ten years [five years for single ply without Henry DB Drain Board). Scope of warranty shall include materials required to return the membrane to a watertight condition.

2.02 WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE (Basis-of-Design)
A. Primary waterproofing membrane shall be Aqua-Bloc SB Cold Applied Elastomeric Membrane as manufactured by Henry Inc., a one component elastomeric waterproofing compound having the following characteristics:

2.03 FABRIC REINFORCEMENT
A. Fabric reinforcement shall be Polyester Fabric as supplied by Henry, a polyester reinforcement sheet capable of allowing the membrane to bleed through adequately to provide a monolithic reinforced membrane system.

2.03 FLASHING MEMRBANE
A. Flashing membrane shall be modifiedPLUS ® NP180s/s as manufactured by Henry, an SBS modified bitumen membrane having a minimum thickness of 90 mils and a non-woven
B. polyester reinforcement of 180g/m 2 . Product shall be tested in accordance with CGSB 37-GP-
56M Type 2 Class C Grade 2. The upper and lower surface shall be sanded.
Flashing membrane shall be Neoflash and Neoflash adhesive as supplied by Henry, a neoprene type, uncured flashing membrane having a thickness of 60 mils.
2.04 PREFABRICATED DRAIN BOARDS: Two part prefabricated geocomposite drain board consisting of a formed polystyrene or PVC core covered on one side with a woven or non-woven polypropylene filter fabric:

2. 05 PREFABRICATED DRAIN BOARD ACCESSORIES
A. Securement Bars: Continuous 1/4 inch x 3/4 inch HDPE bar for screw attachment.
B. Moulding Strip: Continuous 3 ½ inch wide ‘Z’ flashing strip to fit over exposed top edge of drain board.
Drain Board Plugs & Nails: HDPE pre-moulded washer to fit dimples c/w high strength, corrosion resistant concrete nails, UCAN AFH 37 or equal.
PART 3: EXECUTION
3.01 CONDITION OF SURFACES
A. Before commencing work, ensure environmental and site conditions are suitable for installation of waterproofing membrane.
B. The substrate shall be clean and dry, free from surface water, ice, snow or frost, dust, dirt, oil, grease, curing compounds or any other foreign matter detrimental to the adhesion of the waterproofing membrane.

3.02 DECK TO VERTICAL JUNCTURES, CRACKS IN SLAB AND PROTRUSIONS
A. Coat penetrations, such as brackets, clips, braces, etc. that are set into the concrete with a 90 mil coating of elastomeric waterproofing membrane to the height of the wearing course and around projections to ensure a complete seal prior to coating the entire area.
B.
Allow a minimum 14-day cure for new concrete. Ensure concrete is smooth and free from voids and honeycombing prior to application of waterproofing membrane.
Voids, cracks, holes and other damages horizontal or vertical surfaces shall be repaired before application of the membrane.
C.
Penetrations subject to movement should be flashed with polyester fabric set into a minimum thickness of 90 mils to required height on the wall and at least 4 inch on the slab and embed polyester fabric into wet coating.
To all cracks and cold joints less than 1/8 inch apply a coat of elastomeric waterproofing membrane at a minimum thickness of 90 mils and reinforce with polyester fabric.

3.03 MEMBRANE APPLICATION
A. Single Coat Application

Apply elastomeric waterproofing membrane with a trowel, long handled squeegee, roofing brush or spray. Apply membrane at a rate of 6 gal. U.S./100ft.
2 to provide a minimum wet thickness of 90 mils ensuring no pinholes or blisters.
If pinholes or blisters persist use heavy-duty application.

To all cracks greater than 1/8 inch, apply standard gauge flashing sheet into cold adhesive.
Overlap end joint of sheet a minimum 3 inches.
At monolithic wall/slab junctures, apply elastomeric waterproofing membrane at a minimum thickness of 90 mils to required height on the wall and at least 4 inch on the slab and embed
Heavy Duty Application
1. Apply a coat of elastomeric waterproofing membrane at approximately 3.6 gal.
US/100ft 2 and embed Polyester Fabric into coating ensuring no fish mouths or wrinkles
2. are created and allow to set.
Apply second coat of elastomeric waterproofing membrane at 3.6 gal./100ft.
2 and allow to cure.
3.04 INSTALLATION OF DRAINAGE BOARD (Vertical)
A. Align and hang drainage up to foundation wall. Position bottom edge of drainage board to be in moderate contact with weeping tile system.

Secure drainage board to foundation wall with nails and washers spaced 16 inches o/c horizontally. Install minimum of 2 rows staggered and spaced 6 inches apart and min 6 inches from top edge.
Align and install termination strip along top edge with nails spaced 12 inches o/c and seal with termination sealant.
Align and install moulding strip over completed top edge detail.
Overlap end laps, pull back loose fabric to expose drain core and position core of second panel

3.06 CURING AND PROTECTION:

Allow membrane to dry thoroughly. Protect from rain until fully cured. Allow membrane to fully

cure prior to installing protection board, drainage composite or backfilling. Patch or repair damaged areas using same material as original coating.
Protect cured membrane from damage caused by backfilling by using Drainage Composite prior to commencing backfill.
3.07 CLEAN-UP
A. Promptly as the work proceeds and on completion clean up and remove from site all rubbish and surplus materials resulting from the foregoing work.
3.08 PROTECTION
A. Damp substrates must not be inhibited from drying out. Do not expose the backside of the
B. substrate to moisture or rain.
Cap and protect exposed back-up walls against wet weather conditions during and after application of membrane. Drying time varies depending on temperature and relative humidity.
Protect waterproofing Work against wet weather conditions for a minimum of 24 hours.
Primary waterproofing membrane is designed for permanent exposure.
Backfill with specified materials, protect membrane from damage.
