Title Harmful and Addictive Habits Campaigns Background Drugs, psychologically harmful substances and smoking are all a threat to future generations. However, individuals from many countries are vulnerable to these habits due to a lack of knowledge. Dealing with alcohol and drug abuse has become a critical issue in many countries today, including Cyprus. With this project, various education experts, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and local authorities will collaborate to develop and implement a campaign for the general public, and an education programme for students, dealing with the prevention of harmful and addictive habits. Alcohol and drug abuse is a common concern impacting both the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. Thus, this project is important to all Cypriots in that it will endeavour to educate the general public and the youth on the prevention of harmful and addictive habits such as these. o The development and implementation of an Education Programme on the prevention of harmful and addictive habits o Informing schools about the programme and competition. Experts will visit schools and guide students and teachers prior to the competition about the damage caused by harmful habits o The organisation of a conference for teachers in five cities/towns o The organisation of a competition for school students with prizes awarded to primary (7-11) and secondary (12-14) students for which there will be media and press coverage o The performance of a play on harmful habits to secondary students by high school students, after three months training. Performances will take place three times to cover 12 secondary schools o The development and implementation of a campaign to educate the general public on the prevention of harmful and addictive habits o The creation of a brochure/booklet for teachers, as well as posters and stickers to further educate students and society about harmful and addictive habits o Distribution of information materials in Greek and in Turkish throughout Cyprus and Nicosia Drug and alcohol abuse exists in both the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. A project such as this could therefore contribute to cooperation and trust between the two communities by means of the establishment of a collaborative initiative to educate the general public and the youth, islandwide, on the prevention of harmful and addictive habits. Through this project education experts, a number of CSOs and other decision-makers will endeavour to educate the general public and the youth on the prevention of harmful and addictive habits. This will be achieved through the development and implementation of a campaign and education programme. Good Governance Turkish Cypriot education experts Why is this project important to Cypriots?
