This $15,000 award is one of the largest culinary scholarships in the country, and the signature scholarship of The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas. Open to currently enrolled culinary students throughout Texas, the scholarship challenges students to cook an imaginative and creative three-course meal using a pre-determined selection of Texas ingredients. Scholarship applicants’ menus are blindly evaluated by a panel of independent culinary experts, and narrowed to ten finalists. Of the ten finalists, the top three are blindly selected by Chef Stephan Pyles and required to participate in a cook-off competition, utilizing the menus they have created. This cook-off is the highlight of this statewide competition and the winner will receive a $15,000 scholarship for tuition expenses at their home school. They will also receive a $500 stipend to travel with Chef Pyles to a charity engagement during the year. http://www.winefoodfoundation.org/subpages/scholargrants/pyles_master .html IACP is a not-for-profit professional association, which provides continuing education and development for its members who are engaged in the areas of culinary education, communication, or in the preparation of food and drink. Welcome to StraightForward Media's Vocational-Technical School Scholarship program! StraightForward Media is proud to announce this scholarship program in memory of Chris Pollett, a 29-year-old electrician in Fort Worth and friend to many, who passed away far too soon on June 21, 2004. Enrollment in vocational and technical education programs is on the rise, owing in much part to the rapid development of new technology and the industries it creates. Even traditionally "manual" industries like automotive and construction employ new and rapidly changing technology. New and specialized technology creates a demand for the new and specialized skills that vo-tech programs provide. Many of these jobs pay well -- better than the average job landed by a four-year college graduate. And usually, the price tag for a vo-tech education is significantly lower than a four-year school. But vo-tech programs cost money, too. The training is specialized, and it's not always cheap. In light of that, we offer the StraightForward Media Vocational-Technical Scholarships to those of you who are trying to get ahead in life with one of these programs. The scholarship is awarded four times per year. You can apply online now -- check the deadline schedule below for the current application dates. If today's date is between: Sept. 1 – Nov. 30 Dec. 1 – Feb. 28 March 1 – May 31 June 1 – Aug. 31 The current deadline is: November 30 February 28 May 31 August 31 http://www.straightforwardmedia.com/votech/ October Founded in 1984, NEWH is an international non-profit organization, with 18 chapters and 5 organizing groups, which links professionals from every facet of the hospitality industry and related fields. Subsidized Stafford Loans are awarded based on financial need. You will not be charged interest before you begin repayment or during periods of deferment. The federal government "subsidizes"; the interest during these times. Unsubsidized Stafford Loans are not awarded based on financial needs. Any eligible student can take out unsubsidized stafford loans. You will be charged interest from the time the loan is disbursed, to the time the loan is repaid in full. How much can I borrow with Stafford Loans? Dependent Undergraduate Student Independent Undergraduate Student* $7,500 - Max of $3,500 can be in subsidized loans $8,500 - Max of $4,500 can be Sophomore $4,500 in subsidized loans $10,500 - Max of $5,500 can Juniors, Seniors, etc. $5,500 be in subsidized loans Maximum Total Debt $46,000 - Max of $23,000 can $23,000 from Stafford Loans: be in subsidized loans The amount you can borrow is based on your grade level and your status as a student. Independent students may be eligible to borrow more because they are paying for college without assistance from family. It is important to note that even if a student is financing their education on their own, dependency status is still determined by the school. Based on your award letter, you may not always qualify for the maximum Stafford Loan amount. For additional loan funding, consider private student loans which allow you to borrow up to the total cost of education less other financial aid received. *Independent undergraduate students or dependent undergraduates whose parents are unable to get a PLUS loan qualify under this category. Freshman $3,500 Am I eligible for a Stafford Loan? You must be enrolled at least half-time (based on your school's definition of full and half time status) to qualify for Stafford Loans. How do I apply for a Stafford Loan? You first must complete the Free Application for Federal Financial Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal FAFSA (for returning students). After the FAFSA is processed, your school will review the results and inform you of your loan eligibility by sending you an award letter. Once your award letter is received, you should apply for the Stafford Loan, as well as look at other federal student loans. If you aren't eligible for federal loans, you can then apply for private student loans. When do I receive the Stafford Loan funds? Your lender will disburse your Stafford Loan funds directly to your school in two installments – fall semester and winter semester. Your loan money will be used to pay your tuition and fees. If you have funds left over, your school will credit your account or pay you directly based on your school's policy. What if I want to cancel my Stafford Loan? Your school must notify you in writing whenever your account is credited with your loan proceeds. This notification must be sent to you no earlier than 30 days before and no later than 30 days after the school credits your account. You may cancel all or a portion of your loan if you inform your school within 14 days after the date that your school sends you this notice or by the first day of the payment period, whichever is later. Your school can tell you the first day of your payment period. What are the Stafford Loan interest rates? The interest rate for the 2007-2008 academic year for all new student loans (disbursed after July 1, 2006) will be fixed at 6.8%. Will I pay any fees for the Stafford Loan? Many guarantors no longer charge a guarantee fee for education loans. But if they do, this fee could be up to 1% of the loan amount. Additionally, your lender may charge an origination fee up to 3% of the loan amount. Guarantee and origination fees, if charged, are deducted from the loan funds before they are sent to the school. What are the repayment options for a Stafford Loan? The standard repayment term for this loan is 10 years. You may be able to extend repayment by deferring or consolidating your federal loans. You can choose one of the following plans: The Standard Repayment Plan requires you to pay a fixed amount each month based on your principle and interest but will be no less than $50 or the interest that has accrued. The Graduated Repayment Plan allows you to make lower payments at the beginning of repayment then, over time, your payments begin to increase. Each of your payments must equal the interest accrued on the loan between scheduled payments. Initial payments generally cover “interest-only” for the first few years. The Income-Sensitive Repayment Plan bases your monthly payment on your yearly income and your loan amount. Payments may change as your income rises or falls. The Extended Repayment Plan is for borrowers with FFELP loans totaling more than $30,000. This plan offers a choice of fixed or graduated payments over a period of up to 25 years. To consolidate your loans, please visit the federal student loan consolidation section. Please note that federal loan deferment does not fix your interest rates, it merely puts payments on hold. To lock into an interest rate, you must consolidate your federal loans. It is also important to note that the repayment plans listed above are subject to approval by your lender.
