Addition and Multiplication…
Using a BINGO card the students will do
addition, multiplication, or both in order to get
QUIZMO. Here’s how:
1.
Each student is given a Quizmo card (that
looks the same as a Bingo card).

The teacher holds flashcards, some with
addition problems and some with
multiplication problems.

As the teacher shows the students the
flashcards they will have to try and find the
numeric answer on their Quizmo card and
place a chip on that number.

row, column, or diagonal (from corner to
corner) they shout out “Quizmo!” and
show the teacher their answers.

How Is This Relevent…
The two main math topics that are
covered in Quizmo are addition and
multiplication. Addition is the
combining of two or more sets (in this
case numbers or addends) to create one
whole set or sum. Multiplication is the
combining of one number (or factor) to
itself a given number of times to create
a whole or product.

Addition and multiplication are key
math operations that will be the base
for further understanding of more
complex skills. This basic information
will also build the foundation for future
problem solving.

have different names. For the problem
above the five can also be called a
multiplicand and the three can also be

How many times have you gone to the
store and had to quickly add up the
price of your items to see if you
brought enough cash or if you’d stay
within your budget?
When was the last time you took
everyone out to get a snack and had to
multiply the price of ice cream cones
by the number of kids who were about
to ruin their new, clean shirts?
When buying diapers how often did (or
do) you multiply the number of times
you were changing them in a day by
seven to see how many would last you
for the week… and to see if you’d have
enough?
