PROFESSOR OF PHOTONICS

(Physics and Mathematical Physics)

The University of Adelaide in collaboration with the Defence Science and Technology

Organisation (DSTO) seeks to fill a foundation Chair of Photonics in the Physics and

Mathematical Physics discipline. You will be an experienced researcher with an internationally competitive track record in the area of photonics, particularly defence and industrial applications of fibre-optic photonics and will initiate and lead teaching, research and development activity in this area.

Physics at the University of Adelaide has an international reputation for high quality research and teaching in a number of fields and offers general and named undergraduate degrees, as well as advanced degrees of international standards by research. You will be an enthusiastic contributor to all aspects of the activities of the discipline, as well as being involved with research in photonics at DSTO.

An attractive remuneration package is negotiable. Start up funding is available. The chair will be able to appoint a postdoctoral researcher.

Founded in 1836, Adelaide is the capital of South Australia and the centre of the State's economic, cultural, political and social life. It is an attractive well-planned city of wide streets, gardens, squares, parklands and a mixture of historic and modern buildings. Adelaide offers a good quality of life, low cost of living and clean environment . It is also the home of a significant defence, optical and photonics industry.

This position is initially funded for a period of five years, however there are excellent prospects for continuation, subject to your success in attracting students and funding.
