The University of Essex International and Minority Ethnic Staff Forum Aim The aim of the University of Essex International and Minority Ethnic Staff Forum (the Forum) is to promote equality, multicultural diversity, awareness and good practice in dealing with issues relating to race, ethnicity, nationality and xenophobia. Objectives To work with the Equality and Diversity Committee (EADC) and other University committees, agencies and Trades Unions, to raise issues relevant to racial equality and diversity for comment, discussion, recommendation and the promotion of equality in the areas of race and nationality. To seek to involve all members of the University community in the promotion of equality, and the avoidance of discrimination at all levels. To respect multicultural diversity in all areas and activities of University life. To be available for consultation on issues related to race, ethnicity and nationality by the EADC and other University committees, agencies and Trades Unions. Terms of reference The Forum will report to the EADC. Issues to be discussed by the Forum will normally be related to race, ethnicity, xenophobia and nationality. Recommendations, comments and proposals arising from discussion by the Forum will be sent forward for consideration by the EADC or other University committees or agencies as appropriate. The EADC or any other University committee or agency can consult the Forum to seek opinion, recommendation, endorsement or comment on issues related to race, ethnicity and nationality. Membership The Forum will be open to any member of the University staff. Efforts will be made to have an as diverse as possible representation within the forum. Operation and representation The Forum will elect a co-ordinator annually from those members of staff attending the Spring Term meeting of the Forum. Any member of staff can raise issues to be discussed by the Forum. The Forum will meet at least once each term at times and dates agreed by the Forum members. The Forum will be supported by the Equality and Diversity Unit. The terms of reference will be reviewed annually by the Forum members and any suggested changes will be considered by EADC at the first available opportunity.
