Job Description: Executive Director – VSA Missouri Summary VSA Missouri is non-profit organization dedicated to promoting access to the arts for people with disabilities throughout the state of Missouri. VSA Missouri is part of a dynamic network of VSA arts affiliates throughout the country, and international affiliates around the world. The Executive Director is responsible for strategic planning, collaborative networking and partnerships in the arts and disabilities communities; policy and program development, management; fund-raising, fiscal oversight, and marketing. The Executive Director will ensure successful outreach and programming in four areas: education, cultural access, professional development and public awareness; reaching people with disabilities statewide. As the sole employee of an emerging organization, the Executive Director must be flexible and work with the Board of Directors to develop initiatives in furtherance of the mission of VSA Missouri. Scope and Responsibilities: The Executive Director is responsible for the administration and management of VSA Missouri. Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to administrative, fiscal and program development. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. In program development and overall administration, the Executive Director will: 1. Work with the Board of Directors to develop and monitor a strategic plan. 2. Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board. 3. Promote active and broad participation by volunteers. 4. Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. 5. Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field. Communications duties include: 1. Keep the board informed on the condition of the organization. 2. Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs and goals. 3. Establish sound working relationships with community groups and organizations throughout the state. 4. Develop an active communication network with artists with disabilities statewide. 5. Represent the organization to agencies, organizations, and the general public. 6. Maintain positive and mutually beneficial relationships with diverse organizations and individuals in the arts, education and disability communities. In budget and finance duties include: 1. Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices. 2. Work with the board in preparing a budget; and see that the organization operates within budget guidelines. 3. Ensure there are adequate funds for the organization to carry out its work. 4. Be responsible for seeking and managing funding from diverse sources, maintaining data and effective evaluation systems to support timely reporting on program outcomes. 5. Work with the Board of Directors to establish and carry out individual giving plans and special events to raise funds to further the mission of VSA Missouri. Other: The Executive Director will be expected to travel throughout the state, and nationally. In-state travel will be required approximately 25% of the time and out of state travel 1-2 times a year, on average. Experience/Skills Required: Minimum Education: A bachelors degree; advanced degree in relevant area preferred. Demonstrated passion for the mission of the organization Ability to travel to diverse rural and urban communities statewide. Ability to communicate by email, phone and in person with diverse stakeholders. Microsoft Office proficiency Excellent oral and written communication skills. An ability to work from home and to effectively self structure time and activities. Ability to attend and contribute to long meetings as needed. Flexibility to attend meetings or events during the weekday, evenings and weekends. Ideal candidate will have: At least three years of experience in a management position in a non-profit environment. Ability to establish and maintain systems for correspondence, financial and program data record keeping. Grant writing and reporting experience. Demonstrated problem solving skills.
