Course Policies: * * * * * * * * Students are responsible for reading each section before it is taught in class. Some homework will be graded. Students may work together on homework, but each individual student is required to write-up and turn in their own work. Late homework will not be accepted. Homework is constituted as late if it is received ten minutes after class has begun. If homework is turned in, and the student leaves before the end of class, the assignment will not be graded. The exception to this rule is if the instructor is informed in advance of the need to leave class early. Quizzes and projects are given at the discretion of the instructor and frequently reflect material that has recently been discussed in class. To further encouraging regular attendance instructors need not give makeup quizzes. Graded work will be brought to class exactly one time. After that the student may come to the instructor’s office to pick up the work. Students need to be punctual. Attendance will be taken daily and will be included in the student’s grade. If the student signs in and leaves before the end of class, then the student is considered absent. The exception to this rule is if the instructor is informed in advance of the need to leave class early. Courtesy in Class: Cell phones, beepers, and alarmed watches: If one interrupts the class, then the student will be directed to leave the room. Disruptive behavior: If any student regularly disrupts the class through side conversation or unacceptable behavior, then the student will be directed to leave the classroom. Placement Test It is required that all students take this test, which is found at https://fym.la.asu.edu/upt/. This test must be taken by January 31, 2003. Failure to take the exam may result in a drop of one letter grade at the end of the semester. Math Tutor Center Free tutoring is available in PSA 116. The schedule and other information can be found at http://fym.la.asu.edu/~fym/TutorCenter/TutorCenter.shtml. Graphing Calculator The Casio 9850 is recommended and will be used by the instructor for in-class demonstrations. A free workshop will be given at the beginning of the semester. Check with your instructor for details. Grade Components and Scale Three tests are worth 50% of total grade. Non-test activities such as homework, quizzes, and attendance are worth 25% of total grade. The final exam is comprehensive, including 7.5-8.3, and is worth 25% of total grade.
