General Information
· Check the dates for the SAT Reasoning, SAT Subject and ACT Plus Writing tests. These tests are highly recommended to
be taken in the spring of the junior year, and/or in the fall of the senior year. SATs or ACTs are required by most four-year
colleges and universities, and should be completed by December of your senior year.
September
· Attend the 24th Annual Humboldt-Del Norte College Night in the EHS cafeteria on September 24, at 5:30 pm.
· Check with your teacher and counselor to make sure your classes meet high school graduation requirements and college
entrance requirements.
· Begin search of scholarship opportunities.
· Have your parents check the personnel office where they work to see if their employers offer scholarships. Check
parents’/guardians’ unions, fraternal organizations, such as Elks, Moose Lodge, and churches, etc.
October
· Applications for the University of California (www.ucop.edu/pathways) and the California State University
(www.csumentor.edu) campuses are now available online.
· Request, by phone or mail, applications from other four-year colleges and universities, or apply online.
· If planning to attend Humboldt State University, attend HSU Fall Admissions Day, Saturday, October 24 , 2014, on the
HSU campus. Visit the HSU website at www.humboldt.edu.
· If you are planning on attending HSU, Fall Admissions Day *You must have applied to HSU through CSU Mentor BY
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2014, if you wish to have your application reviewed.
· Register online for SAT Reasoning tests or ACT tests, and/or SAT subject tests and ACT Plus Writing tests if planning to
attend a UC campus or specific private college-- www.collegeboard.com and www.actstudent.org.
· Write personal statement essays for the UC’s and select private schools.
November
· October through November 30 is the priority application filing period for all University of California
(www.ucop.edu/pathways) and California State University (www.csumentor.edu) campuses.
· American Indian College Motivation Day - Nov. 6 - Humboldt State University.
· Plan to visit college and university campuses over the holiday break to help you decide on the best school for you.
· Apply to two or more four-year colleges due to impacted campuses or programs at certain colleges and universities.
· Be sure you have also applied for housing at the college of your choice.
· Check out the local scholarship sites at Humboldt Area Foundation, www.hafoundation.org, and the Humboldt State
University (HSU) site,, http://www.humboldt.edu/finaid as well as FREE national scholarship searches, such as
· Search websites, such as www.FastWeb.com for scholarship information.
December
· Attend Financial Aid Night in December. Check schedule for times and locations.
· Last opportunity to take the ACT Plus Writing, SAT Reasoning or SAT subject tests for most UC & CSU campuses.
· To simplify the FAFSA online application process, first complete the FAFSA On the Web Worksheet (https://fafsa.ed.gov/).
(FAFSA & CSS- PROFILE-the financial aid application service of College Board).

Request FAFSA Personal Identification Number (PIN) number online at www.pin.ed.gov before filing FAFSA in January.
Parents should request their own PIN number in order to sign FAFSA electronically and check application progress online.

January
· Attend the "Cash for College" Financial Aid Workshop. Check schedule for times and places.
· Now is the time to complete Financial Aid forms - the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). These forms
may not be sent in before Jan. 1. In order to be considered for state-level financial aid, Cal Grants A, B, or C, the FAFSA
must be sent in no later than March 2nd. (March 2, 2015. After this time, the FAFSA may only be used to apply for federallevel financial aid, such as Pell Grants.
· Request FAFSA Personal Identification Number (PIN) number online at www.pin.ed.gov before filing FAFSA.
· Apply for College of the Redwoods Honors Program. Visit www.redwoods.edu/Departments/Honors or check with your
counselor for eligibility requirements.
· Request seventh semester mid-year transcripts, if required by colleges.
February
· Deadline for filing FAFSA and to fill out GPA verification forms for Cal Grant A, B, or C is March 2nd.
· Be sure you have applied for housing at the college of your choice.
· Plan to visit college and university campuses over the holiday break to help you decide on the best school for you.
· Check directly with universities you applied to for scholarships they may offer.
· Ask counselor if you are exempt or need to sign up for the CSU ELM (Math) and EPT (English) placement tests.
March
· Review FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) for accuracy and completeness.
· Check out college orientation information and campus preview dates.
· Look for the registration process to begin at College of the Redwoods – schedule math and English placement tests.
· Most colleges and universities send notification of admission status this month.
· Attend North Coast Youth Summit 2015 Date TBD.
April
· Complete College of the Redwoods admission and financial aid forms.
· Review financial aid packages.
May
· Notify colleges of your intent to enroll by May 1st.
· Plan to take placement tests at CR, prior to attending CR Redwood Days for registration and enrollment for fall semester.
· Check on Cal Grant CAR: California Aid Report.
June
· Fill out graduating senior survey.
· Request final transcripts to be sent to your intended college.
