Course Modifications
RATIONALE – Motions #1 - 5
The following prerequisite changes will help facilitate future articulation agreements /
pathways between college art and design programs and Nipissing’s Fine Arts program.
We are in the process of finalizing a pathway between Canadore’s Graphic Design
program and we expect to submit the advanced standing proposal in the coming weeks.
This will help us attract new students to Nipissing’s Fine Arts program.
Motion #1:
That ARCC recommend to Arts and Science Executive that the prerequisites for the
following courses be changed from “FAVA 1206 or FAVA 1207” to “any 15 credits
completed”.
FAVA 2236 Modern Art and Design
FAVA 2237 Modern Art History and Social Movements
FAVA 2276 Visualizing Canada Pre-1900
FAVA 2277 Art and Culture in Modern and Contemporary Canada
Motion #2:
That ARCC recommend to Arts and Science Executive that the prerequisites for
FAVA 3046 Critical Theories of Art History and Visual Studies be changed from “6
credits of 2000 level Art History” to “6 credits of Art History”.
Motion #3:
That ARCC recommend to Arts and Science Executive that the prerequisites for
FAVA 3346 Theoretical Issues in Contemporary Art be changed from “6 credits of
2000 level Art History” to “any 18 credits completed”.
Motion #4:
That ARCC recommend to Arts and Science Executive that the prerequisites for
FAVA 4066 Issues in Curation and Museum Representation be changed from “12
credits of upper level Art History” to “6 credits of upper level Art History”.
Motion #5:
That ARCC recommend to Arts and Science Executive that the prerequisites for
FAVA 4067 Special Topics in Art History and Visual Studies be changed from “12
credits of upper level Art History” to “6 credits of upper level Art History”.

RATIONALE – Motions #6 - 7:
We are refocusing FAVA 2236 on the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in
order to avoid overlap with FAVA 2237.
We are revising the course title and description for FAVA 2237 in order to indicate
that the course examines modern art, design, and architecture. FAVA 2237 will
maintain its focus on modern art and social movements.
Motion #6:
That ARCC recommend to Arts and Science Executive that the course description for
FAVA 2236 Modern Art and Design be changed as follows:

and twentieth centuries. In particular, students will examine these practices in
relation to the rapid changes of social and political life that characterize modernity,
such as urbanization, industrialization, technological innovation, global capitalism,
and colonialism.

Architecture”, and that the course description be changed as follows:

brought about cultural change, social reform, or political action in different
historical periods and geopolitical contexts.

In this course, students focus on the movements and themes that dominate art,
design, architecture, and the artists whose individual expression redefined artistic
traditions in the twentieth century. Students examine artists and their work in their
political, social and theoretical context, emphasizing the symbiotic relationship
between art and society.

Changes to Program Requirements
RATIONALE – Motions #8
These program changes are required in order to facilitate articulation agreements /
pathways with college art and design programs. This will help us attract new students to
Nipissing’s Fine Arts program.
Motion #8
That FAPA recommend to ARCC that the Fine Arts program requirements be revised
as indicated in the attached documents.
New Courses
RATIONALE – Motions 9 – 12:
Motions #9 - 11 are splitting an existing six credit course into two three credit courses.
We think this will fit better with students’ schedules, and provide more flexibility with
respect to staffing.
Motions #12-14 will add variety to our art history and visual studies offerings. We will
cycle these courses with our existing courses.

That ARCC recommend to Arts and Science Executive that FILM 1006 Introduction
to Film be added.
Motion#10
That ARCC recommend to Arts and Science Executive that FILM 1007 The Moving
Image be added.
Motion #11
That ARCC recommend to Arts and Science Executive that FILM 1005 Introduction
to Film be banked.
Motion #12:
That ARCC recommend to the Arts and Science Executive that FAVA 2266 Sex and
Visual Art be added.

That ARCC recommend to the Arts and Science Executive that FAVA 2247 Art and
Mythology be added.
