October 31, 2006 JOB DESCRIPTION SCHOLARSHIP MANAGER/DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE RESPONSIBLE TO: Vice President for Development REPORTS TO: Vice President for Development SUMMARY: This position is a professional position with customer service and stewardship responsibilities. Scholarship Manager: Manages the scholarship program and works directly with applicants, schools and current recipients of the scholarship funds. This individual serves as the public voice for the scholarship program and disseminates information regarding scholarships to eligible applicant pools. Development Associate: The Development Associate’s primary responsibilities are to fulfill the day-to-day duties that underpin our service commitment to existing donors as we support them in pursuing their charitable giving goals. It requires a deep understanding of the Foundation’s mission, goals and an in-depth knowledge of the Foundation’s full scope of donor services. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: SCHOLARSHIP MANAGER Coordinates all activities of scholarship program including: Develops scholarship information, application forms and processes that assure access and accountability, as well as innovative methods to publicize the scholarship program and serve potential and existing recipients. Responds to student/parent inquiries and distribute appropriate information. Represents the scholarship funds to financial aid offices, high school and counseling offices, students and other groups. Processes applications Works with selection committees Job Description Scholarship Manager/Development Associate - page 2 Works with guidance counselors Notifies recipients Verifies and monitors recipients Disburses Checks - (Assembles recipient requests for awards, transcripts, and class schedules and any other required materials for processing of scholarship checks and prepare award letter to accompany check.) Coordinates Publicity about recipients- newspapers, newsletters Notifies donors, where appropriate, of recipients Responsible for the overall production of the annual Scholarship Award Presentation event DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE: Manages donor advised and designated grantmaking, including: - evaluation and preparation of donor grant recommendations for staff/executive committee/ board approval - communication with donors and grantees - produce reports as necessary - active participant in donor-related development activities - Handle clerical needs and database management related to the above activities Oversee maintenance of advised fund, designated fund and agency endowment fund files Assemble and maintain information about assigned donors in Foundation database Work with Vice President for Development to connect donors to nonprofit organizations within their areas of interest Assist in the planning of donor events related to donor education, new donor outreach, and other matters Provide ongoing support necessary to create and distribute donor communications and marketing materials Represent the Foundation at events as required and appropriate QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Education and/or Experience At least four years experience in the nonprofit or financial services with special emphasis on account management and customer relations Bachelor’s degree required Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills Excellent management and organizational skills Self-motivated, detail and results oriented Computer proficiency
