TUT AUTUMN GRADUATION TO START ON THURSDAY, 15 APRIL
The Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Autumn 2010 graduations will see a
total of 6 500 qualifications conferred on successful candidates. Of these 70% are
National Diplomas and some 29% are B Tech degrees. The graduation ceremonies will
commence, tomorrow, 15 April at TUT’s Soshanguve Campus, Gencor Hall, at 10:00.
During the graduation ceremonies 10 D Tech Degrees and 47 M Tech Degrees,
including one MBA degree will also be awarded. Dr Oswald Franks, Chief Executive
Officer (CEO) of the Engineering Council of South Africa will deliver the keynote
address during the first ceremony for the Faculty of Engineering and the Built
Environment.
The other ceremonies will be held on 16 April for the Faculties of Information
Communication Technology (ICT) and the Arts; on 19 April for the Faculty of
Management Sciences; on 20 April for the Faculty of Humanities; on 21 April for the
Faculty of Science; on 22 April for the Faculty of Economics and Finance; and on 30
April for the Polokwane campus. Ceremonies for the eMalahleni and Nelspruit
campuses will be on 4 and 5 April respectively.
On 20 April, TUT’s Chancellor, Ms Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will confer all
qualifications on successful students, including the Chancellor’s Medal for academic
excellence on Witness Maluleke for outstanding academic performance at the Faculty of
Humanities.
The Chancellor’s Award is bestowed on students who have performed consistently well
academically during the entire period of their studies at TUT. Other candidates who will
receive the Chancellor’s award are Yannick Kala Konga from the Faculty of Engineering
and the Built Environment, Yvonne Tecla Muzondiwa from the Faculty of Management
Sciences, Mulamba Tshitoka from the Faculty of ICT, Bianca Bronn from the Faculty of
the Arts and Sam Pule Mthimunye from the Faculty of Economics and Finance.
A number of high-profile speakers have been lined up to address the audience. Among
them are: Mr Tim Modise, CEO of the Sizwe Africa IT Group; Dr Oswald Franks, CEO
of the Engineering Council of South Africa; Dr Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane, CEO of
Sentech Limited; Dr Anna Mokgokong, CEO of the Community Investment Holdings;
Captain Patricia A Jackson, Naval Attaché at the U.S. Defence Attaché Office; Mr Brian
Molefe, CEO of the Public Investment Corporation Limited; Mr Phineas Ngobeni,
Motivational Speaker; and Mr Matsobane Tleane, Audit Director at KPMG.
Members of the media are cordially invited to attend the graduation ceremonies.
