Invitation to the Unisca Summercourse 2012 Want to Live, Learn and Lead? Dear UAF-student, The UNISCA Foundation is delighted to inform you that this year we have decided to grant our scholarships to 8 UAF-students. The UNISCA Foundation is a United Nations simulation project, which is organised, in close cooperation with the University of Amsterdam (UvA). The UNISCA conference lets students step into the shoes of ambassadors or organizations from UN member states – other than their own - to debate on current issues on the agenda of the United Nations. Students make speeches, prepare draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the conference rules of procedure - all in the interest of mobilizing "international cooperation" to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world. This year UNISCA will take form as a two week summer course worth 6 ECT’s for both Master and Bachelor students, between the 13th and the 25th of August 2012, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Before the actual conference all prospect delegates are to prepare position papers on the issues to be discussed in their respective committees. The first week will be all about preparation for the actual conference, there will be many lectures and skill development programs where participants will have to prepare literature, study, and cover an exam. Both the literature study and the actual conference will pay attention to current international issues with respect to international relations and international organizations in preparation for the conference. During the second week the actual conference takes place and as a participant, you will get the opportunity to put the acquired skills to good use. As mentioned earlier, each student will be a delegate, representing a member state of the UN throughout the conference week. For those that do not wish to represent a UN member state during the conference, there is also an opportunity to sign up for the UNISCA Press Department or the ICJ moot court. After a hard day’s work, our evening program during these two weeks provides you the opportunity to relax with fellow delegates and to experience the nightlife of Amsterdam. UNISCA is well-known for its Evening Programme where all the UNISCA participants come together for a good social experience: together with your Dutch and international peers you will discover Amsterdam, which is excellent for getting to know each other and our beautiful capital. In short, this experience will leave you with valuable knowledge and fond memories for a lifetime! This conference provides a unique opportunity for well-educated young adults to deepen their knowledge and to further improve essential professional and academic skills. We, at the UNISCA Foundation are dedicated to educating, inspiring and mobilizing young adults to support the principles and vital work of the United Nations, strengthening the United Nations system, promoting constructive leadership in that system and achieving the goals of the United Nations Charter.
