POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Date: September 10, 2010 Posting Title: Continuing Educator I, Program Director of Education Requisition: CE-EDU Department: UC Berkeley Extension, Education and Humanities Location: Berkeley, CA Salary: $65,136 (at 40% FTE) Closing Date: October 11, 2010 JOB DESCRIPTION: Established by UC Berkeley in 1891, UC Berkeley Extension is one of the largest and oldest continuing education operations in the United States. As a self-supporting organization, Extension offers more than 1,500 personal enrichment and professional development classes in multiple locations around the San Francisco Bay Area and online. Extension’s enrollments total approximately 31,000 annually. The Humanities and Education department provides the general public and Bay Area teachers with approximately 200 courses, certificate programs, contract training, seminars, and workshops in various fields. Enrollments in the Humanities and Education department total approximately 2,000 annually. UC Berkeley Extension’s Department of Humanities and Education invites applications for the part-time position of Program Director/Continuing Educator (CE) to manage courses, contracts and curricula in teacher credentialing; adult and vocational education; college admissions and career counseling – a portfolio which offers approximately 20 courses. The Program Director/Continuing Educator (CE) is a 12-month annual term appointment, renewable contingent on funding and positive performance. This is not a teaching position. The Program Director/CE reports to the Director of the Department of Humanities and Education. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Program Director/CE provides academic leadership and financial management in a self-supporting environment. Under the general direction of the Director of the Department of Humanities and Education, the Program Director/CE works largely independently to carry out the functions of the position, including substantial responsibility for the academic quality and administrative aspects of the portfolio of programs and courses. The Program Director/CE responsibilities include: Development, administration, and production of new and existing programs and curricula Program evaluation Student counseling/advising Budget development and financial management in a self-supporting environment Marketing planning Program promotion (in collaboration with the Marketing Department) Instructor recruitment, management and supervision Relationship development and collaboration with campus departments, professional associations, accrediting bodies, advisory committees, and fellow Extension colleagues. Strategic planning Requirements & Qualifications: Required: A graduate degree in education or related field. A minimum of three years experience developing curricula and overseeing educational programs. Demonstrated experience in program assessment, development, implementation and management Demonstrated ability to achieve financial results in a highly competitive self-supporting environment. Demonstrated ability to form successful relations with instructors, campus departments, and professional associations. Understanding of California teacher credentialing Experience organizing or teaching professional development for educators. Experience in outreach to local and state governmental organizations An ability to adhere to strict deadlines. Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to work well with individuals of diverse backgrounds. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Preferred: Ed.D., Ph.D., or equivalent. Teaching and/or private sector work experience. Experience with English as a Second Language programs.
