Carolinas Imaging Services In Matthews Receives ACR Accreditation
MATTHEWS, N.C. – November 15, 2007 – Carolinas Imaging Services in Matthews, a joint venture
between Charlotte Radiology and Carolinas HealthCare System, has been awarded a three-year term of
accreditation for its CT scanner and ultrasound as a result of a recent survey by the American College
of Radiology (ACR).
“To make sure we are in line with providing the best care possible, we have undergone rigorous testing
and quality assurance programs by the ACR,” said Jerome Carter, assistant director of outpatient
services. “This accreditation proves that our equipment follows the ACR’s guidelines as the safest and
the best available.”
Quick Facts:
Carolinas Imaging Services’s CT scanner or
Computed Tomography scanner provides
advanced, outpatient X-ray technology that
produces detailed cross-sectional images, or
“slices” of the interior of the head, spine,
chest, abdomen or other areas of the body.

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high
practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by boardcertified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications
of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the
ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive
report.
The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic-interventional radiologist,
radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the
practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care
services.
