The recently approved tuition rates for Pacific Islander students will take effect for NEW students in Fall 2007. Beginning in Fall 2007, NEW students from an eligible Pacific Island district, commonwealth, territory, or insular jurisdiction, state, or nation that provides no public higher education institution granting baccalaureate degrees are permitted to pay 150% of the Hawai‘i resident tuition rate. (Note: Many students of Pacific Island descent living in Hawaii are actually already Hawai‘i residents, and may be eligible to pay the Hawai‘i resident tuition rate.) See charts below. What if I’m currently a UH student? Current students enrolled in a program of study as either part-time or full-time students at any UH campus will continue to be afforded the privilege of paying resident tuition rates until graduation, providing they are continuously enrolled. What are the eligibility requirements? Yes! There are scholarships and other financial aid available! A University of Hawai‘i Opportunity Grant is available to Pacific Islander students who show financial need according to U.S. federal financial aid guidelines. All UH campuses are committed to awarding need-based financial aid to Pacific Islander students to cover the 50% increase in tuition. Students must first complete and submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to show financial need. To access the application, go to: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
