Connect with us Online!
Dear Friends,
Harrisburg Academy has closed the books on the 2013-14 fiscal year
and now is planning for a very exciting new year. I would like to
extend my sincerest thanks to all Academy alumni who demonstrated
their support; thank you to those who answered the call.
This year, we have set ambitious goals that, if accomplished, would
mark a true turning point in alumni support at the Academy;
specifically, we challenge our alumni to give $40,000 to our Academy
Fund. Gift of all sizes matter and will help us meet this goal.
As a network of Academy alumni, our growth is influenced by our
ability to connect to each other and support our alma mater. We are
all called upon to "be phils." Please take time to review the "Be Phil"
section below and consider what you can do to give back.
Best,
Aug. 28, 2014

We Need Your Contact Information!
To best serve our entire group of alumni, it is important that the Academy maintains regular
contact with its members. These connections allow us to facilitate so many positive things -such as alumni/current student engagement, global alumni-to-alumni networking opportunities,
and the general support and celebration of the entire Academy family with its members'
individual success.
Accurate data is important in accomplishing these things and more. Please take a few minutes
to submit your contact information to stay informed of what is happening at the Academy and
to reap the benefits of this valuable network.

Gifts of Time, Talent, and Treasure
Join the Student Alumni Network (SAN)
A result of increasing interest from Academy Upper School students, the Student Alumni
Network was developed as a student-run organization to connect alumni with current students
(through LinkedIn and Facebook). The SAN is designed to bridge the gap between the
classroom and post-graduate success. Please help the Academy bring professional experience
and contacts into the classroom. Click here to join the SAN or contact Michael LaRue for more
information.
Become a Class Agent
Class agents play an important leadership role not only among their classmates, but in the
alumni network as a whole, maintaining communication and engagement with members of their
graduating class. A class agent will have close contact with the Alumni Office, and more
importantly, understand the value that every single alumni provides to the Academy
community. Click here if you are interested in becoming your class' class agent.
Be "Phil"
When you contribute to the Academy, your money goes to the Academy Fund, 100 percent of
which is allocated to the students and the classroom experience at Harrisburg Academy,
creating the fond memories that we all share. Be sure to "be phil" and support sustainable
growth (please choose the donation designation "other" and type in "alumni donation"). And
don't forget to check with your employer about gift matching!
Why I Give
"A couple of weeks ago, I was helping my mother go through boxes
of photos. Among the photos of my friends, I found photos of me
with my teachers. Looking through these photos, I realized the main
reason I give to Harrisburg Academy: the teachers. Teachers at the
Academy care about their students as individuals and are not
forgotten because of it. I support the Academy because it continues
to be a place where educators decide how to teach their students.
Those institutions are no longer as common as they should be. Many
of the teachers I had at the Academy inspired me to pursue a career
in education, for which I am very grateful."

Nelson Algren Award win caps storybook period for Ben Hoffman
*Originally published by the Chicago Tribune.
On a Saturday afternoon that dripped with sticky June heat, author Ben
Hoffman and his groomsmen readied for his impending nuptials in the
West Loop by basking in his hotel suite's air conditioning and a few
moments of tranquility, a respite from the wedding day frenzy. With just
about four hours to go before the ceremony, the Harrisburg, Pa., native
got a call from an unknown number with a Chicago area code. Read

Class of 2014: Senior Success Stories
As we begin another academic year at Harrisburg Academy,
our most recent graduates are preparing for their first year
of post-graduate success. Most are anticipating their
freshman year of college, some are packing for study abroad
and service programs, but all are prepared because of the
globally minded, liberal arts education they received at the
Academy.
Part of graduating from the Academy now is going through the process of Senior Success
Stories, a project that aims to tell the unique story of every one of our graduating seniors. We
are so pleased to present the successes of all 19 Class of 2014 graduates and wish them the
very best in all their future endeavors.
