Class of 2012 National Merit/Achievement Program Semi-Finalists: 3 Letters of Commendation: 19 Two grade point averages are calculated. The unweighted GPA is based on a traditional 4.0 scale. The weighted GPA is based on a traditional 4.0 scale with an additional 1.0 value for Honors and Advanced Placement courses. NOTE: Courses taken at other high schools or programs are not included in our GPA calculations. There are two categories of levels when calculating the weighted grade point average and they are: Introductory/College courses provide a strong foundation in the subject and prepare students for more advanced academic work. They are designed to emphasize the development of the study skills necessary for continued progress in the discipline and for success in college. These levels provide the background necessary for success on SAT II Subject Tests. Both levels prepare students for successful post-secondary education. Honors/Advanced Placement courses are conducted at a level which is comparable to college work and may prepare students for AP examinations. Courses that specifically follow the AP curriculum are so designated in their titles. Teacher recommendations and/or departmental approval may be required prior to enrollment. Multiply the value of the grade by the credit value of the course. 3. Divide the total of #1 by the total credits of courses being ranked. 4. The result is the weighted G.P.A. of courses for grades 9-11 inclusive. Only those courses taken at Wayland High School are included in the weighted G.P.A. *Please note: The highest possible GPA is a 4.949 due to the fact that some ninth grade courses are no longer offered at the Honors level and therefore it is not possible for a student to earn a 5.0 GPA equivalent. Please also note that several electives are not offered at the honors level, so their grade value can never be factored in as a 5.0 either.
