Regulations on procedure for studies in double degree and bilateral Exchange programmes 1. General provisions 1.1. These regulations set out the procedure for the selection of students for studies in double degree and bilateral Exchange programmes. 1.2. Terminology used: 1.2.1. Turiba –School of Business Administration Turiba; 1.2.2. Partner institution- foreign higher education institution with which Turiba has concluded a cooperation agreement for the implementation of double degree programme and award of degrees of both higher education institutions or an agreement on the implementation of bilateral exchange of students for studies without the award of degree of the Partner institution. 1.2.3. Double degree programme – study programme implemented by Turiba, which foresees the joint implementation of the programme and the award of degree of both higher education institutions in accordance with a cooperation agreement concluded with the Partner institution; 1.2.4. Bilateral exchange programme- Studies at the Partner institution with which Turiba has concluded an agreement on the implementation of bilateral exchange of students for studies. 1.2.5. Student – Turiba’s student, who has been selected through a competition for studies at the Partner institution. 1.2.6. Foreign student- Partner institution’s student, who is studying at Turiba under a Double degree or Bilateral exchange programme. 1.2.7. ECTS- European Credit Transfer System 2. Competition for studies in Double degree and Bilateral exchange programmes. 2.1. 2nd year students of the professional bachelor programmes “Business Administration”, “Law” and “Tourism and Hospitality Management” and 1st year students of the professional master degree programme “Tourism Strategic Management” are eligible to apply for studies in the Double degree programme. 2.2. 1st , 2nd and 3rd year students of the professional bachelor programmes “Business Administration” and “Tourism and Hospitality Management” are eligible to apply for studies in the Bilateral exchange programme. 2.3. Students, who have applied for studies in the Double degree or Bilateral exchange programmes shall not have any academic debts and/or financial debts outstanding to Turiba. 2.4. The competition for studies in the Double degree or Bilateral exchange programmes shall be held in accordance with the following criteria: 2.4.1. Knowledge of English language of the student (marks for the foreign language study course in a higher level group); 2.4.2. Student’s average mark for the previous study period which shall not be less than 7; 2.4.3. Turiba faculties can set additional criteria for the selection of students in accordance with the issue of a decree mentioned in the clause 2.6. of the regulations herein. 2.5. Students who have the highest average marks in accordance with the criteria stipulated in the clause 2.3. of the regulations herein shall be declared winners of the competition for studies in Double degree and Bilateral exchange programmes. In case of identical averages the student who applied for the competition earlier shall be given preference. 2.6. The deadline for submission of applications (appendix 1) for the competition, number of places for studies in Double degree and Bilateral exchange programmes and composition of the committee for the competition shall be determined by the Vice Rector for Study Development and International Cooperation by the 15th March for each year. 3. Submission of application for studies at Partner institutions. 3.1. Students, who have won the Turiba competition for studies in Double degree and Bilateral exchange programmes shall send their application for studies at Partner institutions as well as all documents requested by the respective Partner institutions within the deadlines set by the Partner institutions. 3.2. Upon receipt of confirmation from the Partner institution, Turiba shall issue the Student a mark sheet testifying the Student’s study progress at Turiba and shall by a Rector decree assign the students for studies at the Partner institution. 4. Studies at the Partner institution 4.1. Studies at the Partner institution shall be regulated by the internal regulations of the Partner institution as well as the normative enactments of the country in which the Partner institution is located. 4.2. Upon completion of studies at the Partner institution certified by a diploma issued by the Partner institution, the Student shall submit a copy of the Partner institution’s diploma and mark sheet to Turiba. 4.3. If the Student terminates studies at the Partner institution within the Double degree programme or completes studies under the Bilateral exchange programme, The Partner institution shall issue the Student an academic testimonial on the study course completed at the Partner institution. 5. Award of Turiba degree 5.1. The dean of the Turiba faculty transfers the study courses completed by the Student at the Partner institution by a decree in accordance to the documents submitted that is stipulated in the clauses 4.2. and 4.3. herein. 5.2. Upon completion of studies at the Partner institution the Student continues studies at Turiba in the 4th study year of the respective professional bachelor programme and at the end defends his/her bachelor thesis which may be the same that the Student defended at the Partner institution or continues studies in the 2nd study year of the respective professional master programme and at the end defends his/her master’s thesis which may be the same that the Student defended at the Partner institution. 6. Studies of Foreign students at Turiba 6.1. Studies of Foreign students at Turiba are governed by the normative enactments of the Republic of Latvia (LR) that regulate higher education, internal regulations of Turiba as well as the agreements concluded by Turiba and the respective Partner institutions. 6.2. Foreign students who have gained at least 120 ECTS at Partner institutions are eligible to apply for studies in professional bachelor programme and those with at least 60 ECTS are eligible for studies in the professional master programmes under the Double degree programmes. 6.3. Foreign students shall send in an application for studies in the Double degree or Bilateral exchange programmes enclosing copies of personal identification documents, 2 photographs, notary certified copy of secondary school leaving certificate legalised in accordance with procedures set in the LR normative enactments, Curriculum Vitae, academic testimonial testifying the study courses completed at the Partner institution and the Study contract including the study courses from the list of those offered by Turiba to Turiba within the deadlines set. The study contract must be duly signed by the Foreign student and the respective Partner institution. 6.4. Upon receipt of the Foreign student’s application Turiba shall check whether the Foreign student has completed all the study courses at the Partner institution and whether all the necessary documents have been submitted. If there are no barriers for the enrolment of the Foreign student at Turiba, the dean of the respective faculty and the vice Rector for study development and international cooperation shall sign the Study contract. If any changes are necessary in the Study contract then the amendments are appended to the signed Study contract and sent to the respective Partner institution. 6.5. Upon conclusion of the Study contract, the Foreign student shall by a decree of the Rector be enrolled in a study group. A separate personal file shall be made for the Foreign student. 6.6. Foreign students studying under the Bilateral exchange programme shall be given an academic testimonial regarding the study courses completed and a certificate on the duration of studies upon completion of studies at Turiba. 6.7. Foreign students studying under the Double degree programme upon completion of studies in the 3rd year of the professional bachelor programme or 3rd semester of studies in the professional master programme shall be issued an academic testimonial on the study courses completed. If the Foreign student has completed all the study courses, he/she shall be entitled to the award of Turiba degree upon fulfilment of the requirements set forth in the clauses 6.8. and 6.9. herein. 6.8. Foreign students studying at Turiba under the Double degree programme shall compile, submit and defend a bachelor or master’s thesis in accordance with the same requirements that are set for Turiba students. 6.9. Foreign students studying under the Double degree programme during the 4th study year in the professional bachelor programme shall within the deadlines set by Turiba submit an academic testimonial from the Partner institution regarding the study courses completed. If the study courses completed at the 4th study year at the Partner institution are to the scope of at least 42 ECTS, the Foreign student shall be allowed to defend the bachelor thesis. 6.10. The marks that the Foreign student studying under a Double degree programme gained at the Partner institution shall be transferred to the Turiba programme by a decree of the dean. 6.11. Foreign students who successfully defend their bachelor or master’s thesis shall be awarded a Turiba degree.
