Consumer & Family Economics Specialist
Financial Information Programs –The following program topics and financial information
workshops are available from the University of Missouri Extension. Call the Taney County
Extension Office at 417-339-4431 to request programs, publications, and make an appointment
for budget counseling. Financial Management training is available for agency staff and clients.
Take the Road to Financial Security in Later Life – Learn how to navigate the road to
financial security in later life by making informed financial decisions along the way. Information
is available on the web at www.reeusda.gov/financialsecurity Attend a “Financial Fitness “
or “Financial Planning “seminar.
Estate Planning - Learn how to get your financial affairs in order by attending a seminar
conducted by Extension faculty designed to help you evaluate your legal health and estate plans.
America/Missouri Saves - Learn easy ways to save and build wealth to achieve your financial
goals. Reach your savings goal by attending a seminar and receive a free newsletter from
America Saves or register online at www.AmericaSaves.org. Join Missouri Saves at
www.missourifamilies.org/mosaves.
Money Management Choices- A basic money management workshop on budgeting, credit, and
sound money management choices for living with less. Free seminars and money management
publications are available.
Financial Education for Youth– High School students or youth groups are invited to test their
consumer skills at the LifeSmarts website www.lifesmarts.org sponsored by the National
Consumer League. The High School Financial Planning curriculum is available to teach basic
financial management by contacting the Taney County Extension Center.
Protecting Your Privacy – A seminar on what you can do to protect your financial, medical and
telecommunications privacy including what you should know to protect yourself from Financial
Fraud and Identify Theft.
Taxpayer Education - Educational programs to inform taxpayers and families about Earned
Income Tax Credit and $ense & $aving workshops to help families deal with taxes. Free tax
preparation is available at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites in Stone and Taney Counties.
Rent Smart - A program designed to help renters acquire and keep housing. Topics addressed
include: Determining how much rent you can afford by developing a spending plan,
Understanding the rental application process including credit reports and screening methods, and
legal issues including landlord – tenant responsibilities.
Youth & Family Programs
Parenting Workshops - Workshops for parents are available to promote positive parenting
through improved parenting skills. Topics include Parenting Styles, Ages and Stages of
Development, Communication, and Discipline. Programs for single parents, foster parents and
grandparents are also available including Parenting On Your Own, Co-parenting, and Helping
Children Cope with Divorce.
Child Care Provider Training - Monthly workshops are available for certification hours. For

Home Study Courses
Investing in Your Future - A series of lessons designed for the beginning investor to learn the
basics of investing. Topics include how to get started, types of investments, deciding what to
buy, and legal estate considerations. $15.00 Fee for workbook or visit the website –
www.Investing.Rutgers.edu This site features 11 units on investing basics and investing small
dollar amounts, stocks, fixed income securities, mutual funds and tax deferred Investments.

to families including Parenting, Aging, Childcare, Divorce, Personal Finance, Consumer Action,

Center on Aging Studies - Visit the Center on Aging Studies at http://iml.umkc.edu/casww to
learn about family care giving and practical information on aging issues.
LifeSmarts website – www.LifeSmarts.org This site features an interactive consumer
education quiz to test consumer skills of youth in health personal finance, technology,
