LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS
2013 – 2014
BETA SIGMA PHI SCHOLARSHIP Provides a scholarship of $500 for one year to ICCC. Boys and
girls applying must have a G.P.A. of 3.0. Need and citizenship will be considered. Students must attach
an essay about themselves and their goals for the future.
BUTLER SCHOOL BUILDERS SCHOLARSHIP Provides for a $300 scholarship for one year to
college of student’s choice. Must have attended Butler School for four years or more.
CENTRAL FINANCIAL GROUP SCHOLARSHIP This $1,000 scholarship is being given on an every
other year basis (odd years) to St. Edmond High School and (even years) to Senior High School. Must be a
graduating senior with good work ethic, realistic goals, and plan to attend a college, university, business
school or vocational school.
CHARLES F. FOUGHTY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for $1,000 ($500 per semester)
for one year to an accredited two or four year Iowa college. Student must have a 2.5 GPA or above and
possess strong work ethic, leadership ability, enthusiasm and integrity.
CLASS OF 1965 SCHOLARSHIP The award is for $500 for one year. Open to any student who exhibits
exceptional personal qualities even though he or she may be an “average” student academically.
COOPER SCHOOL BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Provides for a $500 scholarship for one year
to the college or technical school of student's choice. The criteria for selection will include academics,
extra-curricular activities, leadership, character, and community service. Student must have attended
Cooper School for two years. Please attach a letter of reference from a former or present Cooper School
staff member and a current transcript.
DEAN AND DORIS CLARK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Provides for an award of $300 for one
year to college of student’s choice. To be awarded to a student with demonstrated ability in creative
writing. Financial need to be considered only if necessary to resolve a tie situation between candidates.
DELTA KAPPA GAMMA SCHOLARSHIP Provides $600 tuition for one year to ICCC. Candidate
must be a female and a future teacher. Must be in the upper half of the senior class and have outstanding
personality and character.
DUNCOMBE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Provides for a one
time $600 scholarship to the college of student's choice. Student must have attended Duncombe
Elementary School for at least four years. Student must include with application a paragraph sharing
his/her favorite memory of Duncombe School or explain what attending Duncombe School meant to them.
ED MC NEIL MEMORIAL “PEPSI” SCHOLARSHIP Provides for $500 to Iowa Central Community
College for one year ($250 per semester) to a boy or girl who has a 3.0 grade average or above, strong
church relationship or exhibits high Christian or Judeo-Christian ideals.
EMERSON AND PAULYNE DAWSON SCHOLARSHIP Provides $100 per semester to ICCC for one
year. Any boy or girl planning a career in one of the healing arts or the field of fine arts is eligible.
FEELHAVER ELEMENTARY BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Provides a one-time $400
scholarship ($200 per semester) to the college or technical school of student's choice. Student must have
attended Feelhaver for three or more years. Criteria for selection will include 3.0 GPA or higher and
evidence of school and/or community involvement. Student must attach a letter of reference from a current
or former Fort Dodge Community School District employee.
FIREMAN’S LOCAL #622 SCHOLARSHIP Provides $500 ($250 per semester) for one year to school
of student’s choice. Citizenship, scholarship, and financial need will be considered.
FORT DODGE ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP A $500 scholarship will be awarded
to a minimum of one female and one male student athlete at Fort Dodge Senior High. Student athlete must
have competed in a minimum of one sport or cheerleading or drill team during their four years at FDSH,
GPA of 3.0 and must portray good sportsmanship on and off the field. Parents must be paid members of
the Athletic Booster Club.
FORT DODGE BAND AND ORCHESTRA BOOSTERS SCHOLARSHIP Four individual $250
scholarships will be awarded to individuals who have participated in band or orchestra throughout all years
of attendance at FDSH. Must also complete a 250 word essay on what they learned or experienced in
band/orchestra activities in which they participated. Scholarship awarded to individuals who will pursue a
higher education at a college, business or vocational school, or university. Student does not have to be
going into music. Scholarship granted on basis of completion of essay, form listing participation in
band/orchestra activities, character, and GPA.
FORT DODGE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP Provides $1000 for one year, ($500
per semester) to a two-year college, four-year college or university of student’s choice. Scholarship is
open to any student in the Fort Dodge Public Schools who are the children of F.D.E.A. members, and /or
one of the associated or affiliated associations. Granting of scholarship shall be based on grade point, need,
character, and/or possible interest in the field of education.
GAIL NICESWANGER MEMORIAL DRAMA SCHOLARSHIP Provides $500 ($250 per semester)
to a student who will major in drama or theatre at the school of choice
GOLDEN “K” KIWANIS AWARD Scholarships will be awarded to 6 graduating seniors to be used at a
college of the student's choice. Granting of award shall be based upon scholarship and need. Each
scholarship will be for $1,000.
GREAT WESTERN BANK Provides a $1000 scholarship to a senior planning to attend ICCC in the fall.
You must be in the top half of your class, be a good student who is active in school and community.
HARVEY AND EVA SCHEERER SCHOLARSHIP Provides one scholarship of $1,000 toward tuition
for one year to ICCC or Iowa State University for a graduating senior. The selection is made from
applicants in the academic upper half of the class with interests in any discipline that would prepare them to
better serve the community. The purpose is to select deserving and ready students who are interested in
doing advanced study and who wish to devote themselves to farm or agricultural related occupancies.
Agriculture now encompasses so much scientific knowledge and technical, business, and communication
skills that we would like to recognize these needs with further training.
HENRY W. HAWLEY SCHOLARSHIP Provides for payment of $175 per semester for one year to
ICCC. Boy or girl. Financial need to be considered. The recipient can renew the scholarship.
HILLCREST SCHOOL BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Provides for a $500 scholarship ($250 per
semester) for one year to the college or technical school of student’s choice. The criteria for selection will
include academics, extracurricular activities, leadership, character and community service and must have
attended Hillcrest School for four years or attended each year until the schools closing in 2011 and have a
3.0 GPA.
JANE ELIZABETH DOUD SCHOLARSHIP This award is for $750 per semester for a girl attending
Iowa State University. The scholarship will continue for four years, as long as the recipient pursues her
education at Iowa State University.
JERI COLLINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship will provide $500 to the school of
student’s choice. Student must have a 3.0 GPA or above and plan to minor/major in the Arts, but not
limited to music.
JIM LIND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Provides for an award of $600 to be paid to a graduate who
has been a member of the wrestling team, and who has exhibited good citizenship and scholastic
achievement.
JOHN AND EVA AMOND SCHOLARSHIP Provides up to $2000 for one year to a FDSH graduate
pursuing a college education. Selection will be based on scholarship, leadership and need.
JOHN SHEKEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Provides $250 for one year to a FDSH graduate
pursuing a career in the fine arts or humanities field. You must have participated in either Drama
performances or Large Group Speech contests while at Senior High, demonstrated leadership skills and
talent and shown respect and kindness to classmates with unique diversities.
JULIA M. CORMACK ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP Provides $300 ($150 per semester) to a student
attending Iowa Central Community College in the field of nursing.
KAYLA JONES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship will provide $500 scholarship(s) to
the school of student's choice. Student must have good character, leadership skills, and be active in sports
or school activities.
KYLE ANDERSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is open to a senior with a 2.5
GPA or above and majoring in the field of education. Student must exemplify good citizenship, leadership,
and enthusiasm with a strong church relationship and high Christian ideals. This scholarship will provide
$500 for one year ($250 per semester) to the school of choice. Financial need will be a consideration.
Please attach one letter of reference.
MARVEL AND HELEN HEMPHILL FAMILY ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP Provides $1,000 ($500
each semester) for one year to a student furthering his/her education at the University of Northern Iowa in
the field of education.
MICHAEL SCHMINKE IMPROV SCHOLARSHIP Provides $100 to student enrolled at ICCC for
the fall semester. Student must have a 3.0 GPA and have participated or is participating in an ICCC or high
school dramatic event. Must show leadership skills.
MILAN C. (LUG) & DARLENE MACEK SCHOLARSHIP provides $500 to one senior male and one
senior female for one year to a student furthering his/her education at Iowa Central Community College.
Student must be in the middle to lower ranking in scholastic standing and must be accepted to ICCC.
MR. & MRS. JOSEPH HABHAB SCHOLARSHIP Provides for an award of $500 toward tuition and
books for one year, to the college of student’s choice. Female only. Must be active in girl’s athletics and
be outstanding in scholarship and leadership.
MR. & MRS. MOSES HABHAB AND ENSIGN OSCAR HABHAB SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Provides for $500 for one year to a college of student’s choice. Applicants must rank in the upper half of
their graduating class and have demonstrated an ability to do college work. Citizenship and financial need
will also be considered.
PINGEL TYRE & AUTO CENTRE SCHOLARSHIP Provides two $200 scholarships to students
attending an accredited college or vocational school in the field of automotive repair.
RABINER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Income from a trust fund is used for tuition grants in the
amount of $200 per year to assist worthy students attending ICCC and who are graduates of FDSH.
Awards are not based solely on scholastic achievement as need and character will also be considered.
SGT. JON J.J. BONNELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship provides $2000 ($500 per
semester over two years) to student's school of choice. Student must exemplify good character, leadership,
and have participated in athletics. Applicant must submit a 750-word essay on those that have served in the
military and made the ultimate sacrifice. Seven scholarships will be awarded to FDSH students.
SUMNER HEMAN MEMORIAL ART SCHOLARSHIP Provides $500 to be awarded the second
semester of college enrollment to a student who has demonstrated artistic ability and majoring in the visual
arts or a related field.
THELMA AND EMMETT KNUDSON SCHOLARSHIP Provides a stipend of $500 per year ($250
per semester) for four years to a graduate showing financial need, good character, and having predictability
for success in the fields of medicine, nursing, veterinary medicine, agriculture, or the ministry. Renewable
with satisfactory progress towards graduation for three years.
UNION PACIFIC EMPLOYEE CLUB # 78 SCHOLARSHIP Provides one $250 scholarship given on
an every other year basis, even years to St. Edmond High School and odd years to Fort Dodge Senior High
School. Paid directly to college or technical school of student's choice upon proof of enrollment. Based on
financial need and a "C' or better grade average. Must include one page essay and goals.
WILMA MEUSBORN OLSON SCHOLARSHIP Provides $250 for one year upon proof of enrollment
to the two or four year college of your choice. Open to any graduating FDSH senior who has demonstrated
high ability and participation in any field of “music” through their years in high school. Must exhibit
exceptional “musical” qualities even though they may be an “average” student academically.
SCHOLARSHIPS NEEDING A SPECIAL FORM TO APPLY

ARTHUR E. AND VIRGINIA M. SERGEANT COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP Scholarships of
approximately $1300 for one year to a two or four year college of the student’s choice. Open to any FDSH
or St. Edmond student of: average” grades, but must display exceptional activities and community service.
Must possess good citizenship and strong church relationship or exhibit high Christian or Judeo-Christian
ideals. Financial need is a factor. OBTAIN SPECIAL APPLICATION FORM FROM THE
COUNSELING DEPT OR THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, FORT DODGE.
CARL AND EVA SWANSON SCHOLARSHIP Available to students from Webster County who will
pursue a higher education at an accredited institution or vocational training school in the state of Iowa.
Must be of good Christian character, underprivileged or a member of a minority group. Renewable with
satisfactory scholastic progress.
CECIL MAE SCHOMOKER SCHOLARSHIP Provides up to $3,000 per scholarship or stipend to an
accredited institution or vocational training school within the state of Iowa. Must be a graduate of a
Webster County high school, of good Christian character and in need of financial assistance, underprivileged or member of a minority group. Scholarship recipients may apply for a renewal of their
scholarship for a second year.
CLASS OF 1958 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship provides for $1,500 for one year to
an accredited two or four year Iowa college or university of student's choice. Applicant must maintain a
minimum of 2.5 GPA the first semester to be eligible for the second payment.
Must demonstrate outstanding personal qualities, good work ethic, leadership ability, enthusiasm and
integrity.
CLASS OF 1968 VOCATIONAL/TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP Provides for two $500 scholarships
($250 per semester) for one year to be used for tuition/books/supplies for a student attending Iowa Central
Community College campus enrolled in a Vocational/Technical program.
COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP Provides $1,000 to assist graduates of Fort Dodge
Senior High and St. Edmond High School who will attend any Iowa Community College, College, or
University.
Selection will be based on financial need, scholastic performance, work history,
recommendation content, essay content and school and community activities. A 2.5 GPA is required.
CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSIHPS Citizens Community Credit Union will award two scholarships.
The Katherine Hankel Scholarship and the Roy Reynolds Scholarship for $500 each. The Second District
chapter Credit Union will award two $500 scholarships also. All are open to any graduating senior.
Student or parent, guardian or grandparent must be a member of the Citizen’s Community Credit Union.

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH offers a variety of scholarships given by generous church members
who have given so others may receive. These applications are available to members of First Presbyterian
Church who are currently seniors in high school. Each scholarship offered has specific guidelines when
applying. OBTAIN SPECIAL APPLICATION FORM FROM THE COUNSELING DEPT OR THE
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, FORT DODGE.
FORT DODGE CREDITORS SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is in the amount of $1,500 for one
year ($750 each semester) to the college or university of student’s choice. The applicant should have a
GPA of at least 3.00 and show evidence of completing college level or advance academic work. Applicant
should have outstanding personality and character traits.
FORT DODGE HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP Awards up to six
$1,000 scholarships to Iowa Central Community College for one year ($500 per semester). Applicant must
be a son or daughter of an alumnus of Fort Dodge Senior High.
FORT DODGE NOON KIWANIS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Provides $500 scholarship for one year to
school of student’s choice. Boy or girl. Scholarship and need will be considered.
FORT DODGE NOON LIONS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Provides a $1000 scholarship to a
student with a 3.0 GPA who shows evidence of completing advanced academic work. Should have
outstanding personality and character traits and operate under a high personal standard of moral conduct.
FORT DODGE ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS Will provide $750 tuition for one year to Iowa
Central Community College. Record of achievement and need will be considered. Several scholarships are
available to students at Senior High and St. Edmond in either Arts or Science or a Vocational Program.
FRIENDSHIP HAVEN MEMORIAL FOUNDATION, BESS PETTYCREW SCHOLARSHIP
To award educational excellence is the purpose of this award. Student must maintain a 3.2 GPA now and
while in college. Need three letters of recommendation and an essay to apply.
FRIENDSHIP HAVEN MEMORIAL FOUNDATION, DR. WILLIAM AND EDNA REMER
SCHOLARSHIP Designed to recognize a need for qualified nursing personnel in the field of long-term
health care. Applications are received from any college-bound student entering the health or social services
field and meet criteria described in special application.
HAWKEYE COMMUNITY THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP Provides for an award of $500 to the school
of student’s choice. The applicant’s primary interest must be in dramatic arts. Accomplishments in high
school drama will be given primary consideration. Can be renewed for one additional year.
H.C. MERIWETHER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Provides for $500 to an African American
student to be used at the student’s school of choice. Scholarship and citizenship will be considered. Student
must include essay and transcript.
JAMES W. AND FRANCES M. ACKERMAN CHARITABLE FOUNDATION provides a
scholarship in the amount of $2,000 each for one year at any community college or university in the state of
Iowa. Preference will be given to an applicant desiring a career in hotel, motel or food management.
Scholarships will be based on need. Students should have at least a 2.5 GPA and of good moral character.
JEM OUTSTANDING MATH AND SCIENCE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP provides two $500
scholarships for students who excel in math or science. Pick up an application from any math or science
teacher. Applications are due March 1st.
JIM G. NEUMANN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Provides $1,000, ($500 per semester) for one year
to an accredited two or four-year college. Must have intention of degree in education, preferably special
education. Must display leadership ability, dedication, enthusiasm, integrity and empathy toward others.
JOE ‘BEAR’ CROOKS SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is open to a senior who has been involved in
sports or extra-curricular activities in high school and who plans to participate in sports or extra-curricular
activities in college. Student must plan to attend college in Iowa and plan to go into a career working with
youth.
KATIE LUNN KEEP THE SMILE ALIVE SCHOLARSHIP Provides a $3000 scholarship to the
college of their choice for a senior who is nominated by a peer and a $1000 scholarship for the nominator
when they graduate from high school. The senior nominated should be a person with tremendous character
and someone who has been a positive influence on you and others.
MILDRED AND MILO L. HAYES EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Provides scholarships for
students in the upper half academically of their graduating class, and who will be attending an Iowa
college. Scholarships are based in part on need. The annual awards are $500.00 for a community college,
and $1,000.00 for a four-year college. The Trust typically grants between twenty and twenty-five
scholarships per year among the four Webster County High Schools.
NEW COVENANT CHRISTIAN CHURCH MOXIE SCHOLARSHIP Provides one scholarship
in the amount of $500 ($250 per semester) for one year to a two or four year college upon proof of the
student's enrollment in a college of their choice. This is open to any student who has average grades,
displays exceptional involvement in school activities, community service, and church. The applicant must
exhibit Christian ideals and a need for financial aid. Application is also available at the church.
WADE WHEAT MEMORIAL FOCUS SCHOLARSHIP Provides one scholarship to a senior minority
student who has demonstrated the ability to maintain a positive outlook and remain focused on their future
despite life’s challenges. Grades will be considered, but more emphasis will be given to honest short
answer questions. This scholarship will provide $500 for one year to a school of choice.
WEBSTER COUNTY PHEASANTS FOREVER SCHOLARSHIP Provides two $1000 scholarships
to students with a “C” or better grade average and pursing a career in conservation, natural resources,
wildlife biology or animal ecology.
WEBSTER COUNTY RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL SCHOLARSHIP
Two $1,000
scholarships will be offered to Webster County High School Seniors. These scholarships will be available
to students pursuing a teaching certificate. Selection will be based on scholarship and on need.
WILLIAM HUBEL SCHOLARSHIP Provides several scholarships for approximately $1000 to college
of student’s choice. This is open to any student who is a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Fort
Dodge. An application must be picked up at the St. Edmond Business Office in March.

SCHOLARSHIP MATERIAL
2013 - 2014
Attached are scholarships available to seniors at Fort Dodge Senior High. Students
interested in making scholarship applications should check the eligibility requirements of
the scholarship and submit an application form for each of those for which they wish to be
considered. There is no limit to the number of applications that can be submitted, as long
as the requirements are met.
APPLICATION FORMS: A standard white application form is required in the
majority of the scholarships. In cases where the same application form is to
be used for several scholarships, it is acceptable to make copies from one
completed form. When doing so, leave the NAME OF SCHOLARSHIP line
blank, make the number of needed copies and insert the name of the
scholarship for which your are applying. A SPECIAL APPLICATION FORM
may be indicated for several of the scholarships. Special application forms
can be picked up in the Guidance Counseling Department when the forms are
made available to the school.
