including native and pre-Revolutionary America. This fellowship is for 4 to 6 weeks of continuous travel
abroad in areas such as Africa, Asia, or South America, as well as Europe, to sites of historical and cultural
interest, including museums, exhibitions, collections, and monuments. The travel fellowship is intended to
encourage a breadth of art-historical experience beyond the candidate's major field, not for the advancement
of a dissertation. Preference will be accorded to those who have had little opportunity for research travel
abroad. The amount of the award is dependent on the travel plan, with a maximum of $4,500.

Fellowship helps students in the humanities and social sciences who have completed their major course
requirements to formulate more effective dissertation proposals. There are two workshops: one in the spring
to prepare students to undertake summer research that will inform the design of their dissertation proposal;
one in the fall to help students write dissertation and funding proposals. There are five research fields
selected each year, students apply to one of them. Expenses to attend the workshops are covered; summer
research funding is also available.

The two-year award is intended to promote diversity on college faculties. Fellows devote the first year to
completing the dissertation and teach one course. The second year is spent on academic development and
teaching one course. They are awarded to applicants from underrepresented groups, including ethnic

Harry Frank Guggenheim Dissertation Fellowship

The Foundation welcomes proposals from the natural and social sciences and the humanities.
Questions that interest the foundation concern violence and aggression in relation to social change,
intergroup conflict, war, terrorism, crime, and family relationships, among other subjects. Dissertations with
no relevance to understanding human violence and aggression will not be supported. Priority will also be
given to areas and methodologies not receiving adequate attention and support from other funding sources.
These $20,000 awards are designed to enable the recipient to complete the dissertation. Requires ABD

American Association of University Women International Fellowship

International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the US to women who are not US
citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are
supported. Recipients are selected for academic achievement and demonstrated commitment to women and
girls. The overwhelming majority return to their home countries to become leaders in government, academia,
community activism, the arts, and science. The Masters/Professional Fellowship awards $18,000; the
Doctoral Fellowship $20,000, and the Postdoctoral Fellowship $30,000.
American Research Institute in Turkey

humanities and include humanistically oriented aspects of the social sciences, prehistory, history, art,
