Applying teams can propose to develop up to three CUREs. List the course(s) in which you expect to teach the
CURE(s) during the coming academic year, along with information about the major and year-in-school of the
targeted students, the anticipated enrollment(s), which team member(s) will be involved, and whether this is a
new course.

1. For each course, please elaborate on the following items.
a) Do you have a research project (CURE) in mind? If so, please describe it. If not, what general area of
research do you have in mind? Consider exploring project options through CUREnet
(http://curenet.cns.utexas.edu/), the Freshman Research Initiative (https://cns.utexas.edu/fri), or the
Center for Authentic Science Practice in Education (http://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/caspie/).
b) Is this course required or is it an elective?
c) Who is the student population for this course? Majors or non-majors? Intro or upper level? Honors or
general population? Also comment on the diversity of the student body at your institution.
d) What portion of this course will be spent on the CURE? How many hours per week will students work
on their projects?
e) What is the long-term expected timeline of the research project(s) proposed? How do you see this
project evolving over time?
2. How will your participation in the CURE SI benefit your students as well as your own teaching and career?
You may wish to describe teaching or research challenges you have encountered that you hope to address by
participating in the CURE SI.
3. Briefly describe your previous involvement with teaching professional development and research involving
undergraduates (e.g., workshops and conferences, mentoring of undergraduate researchers).
4. Please describe why the combination of people on your team is appropriate for your institution and the
research and teaching you have in mind. If you are applying alone, please explain why you have opted to do
so. What skills and roles do you bring that will enable you implement the proposed CURE(s) and broaden
the impact of the CURE SI on your campus? How will your involvement in the CURE SI complement other

undergraduate education efforts on your campus (e.g., previous institute teams, science education grants
from HHMI or NSF, campus curricular reform, other national or local initiatives)?
5. To be considered for travel grant funding, please explain your needs including estimated total cost.
Limited funds are available.

experienced CURE instructor onsite and during the academic year.
