JOB DESCRIPTION
The Program Director is responsible for the advancement of Leadership Memphis mission through peak
experiences for participants by providing thought-provoking content and teaching high-impact and actionoriented community leadership skills. This will include high level research, planning, implementation and
evaluation of Leadership Memphis programs and program functions.
This position reports to the Senior Director of Operations.
The Program Director will produce and provide organizational supervision over annual program curriculum that
advance a culture and create an ecosystem of community leadership, prepare and connect community leaders
to drive collective impact, and foster and support diversity and equity in every aspect of our community. The
Program Director will manage Leadership Memphis Core Programs that annually serves nearly 200 community
leaders (Executive Program, FastTrack, and Grassroots). The Program Director will provide support for the
American Leadership Forum (ALF) Criminal Justice Program.
The Program Director must provide direction, goal setting and oversight of staff: Program Coordinator and
other future coordinator positions; program faculty, vendors: guest faculty site venues; and caterers, etc. The
director is responsible for effectively recommending the recruitment, hiring, supervision and firing of
aforementioned staff, guest faculty, vendors and volunteers. The Program Director is expected to maintain
professional relationships and hold to the highest of academic standards everyone who is involved with the
planning and delivery of all Leadership Memphis programs.
ANNUAL DELIVERABLES
The Program Director is expected to produce the following deliverables on an annual basis:
 Executive program – one class of 80/graduate 75
 FastTrack program – two classes of 40 (80)/graduate 75
 Grassroots program – one class of 40 (40)/graduate 35
 Development/delivery of a strong curriculum for Core Program
 Development/delivery of learning objectives for each program
 Professional resource/instructional materials for all programs
 Direction of logistics for each program
 Recruitment and direction of staff and guest faculty
 Accurate class rosters
 Active communication plan for students in each class
 Collateral materials for program
 Staging successful graduation ceremony for annual program year.
 Effective evaluations of each class
QUAILFICATIONS AND SKILLS DESIRED












Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree required. 5-7 years’ experience preferably in business, education
and/or non-profit. Understanding of community/national service and education a plus.
This position requires a high level of strategic thinking, organization, project management skills,
relationship building, planning, attention to details and accuracy.
Demonstrate the ability to multi-task simultaneously and to prioritize to meet deadlines.
Must be self-motivated, and able to work well both independently and cooperatively; proven success
working as member of a team.
Position requires a high degree of professionalism, tact and diplomacy, and sensitivity to highly
confidential information.
Strong computer skills needed, including word-processing, spreadsheets, and familiarity with complex
databases. Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
The demonstrated ability to build constituency programs and activities, overcome barriers and
obstacles, and possess a talent for motivating staff and volunteers.
A willingness to learn.
Occasional evening and weekend work required.
Communication skills - written and verbal
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Willingness to use personal vehicle to transport during events.
