College of Science, Swansea University Postgraduate Scholarship Application Form The College of Science is offering scholarships for new UK/EU taught master’s students commencing their studies in September 2015. Completed application forms must be returned to the Philip Jarman – p.a.jarman@swansea.ac.uk by Wednesday 1st July 2015. Each award will be worth £3,000 towards tuition fees. COURSES: Applications can be made for any of the following postgraduate taught Science programmes: MSc Environmental Biology: Conservation and Resource Management MSc Computer Science MSc Advanced Computer Science (and Specialisms) MSc Environmental Dynamics and Climate Change MSc Geographic Information and Climate Change MSc Mathematics and Computing for Finance MSc High Performance and Scientific Computing Only candidates holding (or expecting to achieve) a minimum of a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) will be considered for an award. For more information about these awards please visit our website: www.swansea.ac.uk/science/postgraduatescholarships ELIGIBILITY, TERMS AND CONDITIONS RELATING TO SWANSEA UNIVERSITY MASTER’S SCHOLARSHIPS SCHEME: 1. The awards will be used to offset tuition fees. 2. Applicants must have (or expect to obtain) a minimum of a 2.1 degree (or equivalent). 3. Awards are available for Science Taught Master’s programmes only, commencing in September 2015. 4. Only applicants from the UK or EU will be eligible. 5. Scholarship candidates must not have previously pursued a postgraduate master’s course at Swansea University. Students must be enrolling on an eligible postgraduate master’s course at Swansea University for the first time in September 2015. 6. Awards are available for both full-time and part-time study. For students studying part-time, the award will be made on a pro-rata basis. 7. Students should normally be privately funded. Students must not be holding a full tuition fee award from another source. Students holding several partial awards at the same time will be considered on a caseby-case basis, and should contact Philip Jarman at p.a.jarman@swansea.ac.uk Applicants should check the terms and conditions of other awards they are offered. 8. The closing date for the receipt of completed award applications is 1st July 2015. 9. Applicants must also complete an application for a place to study at Swansea University. This must be received by the Admissions Office by the 1st July 2015deadline. 10. Successful candidates will be informed by 1st September 2015 and a reduced tuition fee will be levied at enrolment. 11. Awards are non-transferable between Colleges. 12. The Recruitment and Admissions Committee may use whatever means of assessment it thinks most appropriate in order to determine which candidates are worthy of recommendation to Senate for an award. 13. Award holders are reasonably expected to co-operate in Swansea University open days and recruitment events and to provide a profile for promotional activity. 14. Having accepted an award, the recipient may not withdraw from the programme save in exceptional circumstances and subject to the approval of the Committee and the relevant Head of College. Failure to observe this regulation may render the student liable to repay to the University any award which has been made either in whole or in part as determined by the Recruitment and Admissions Committee. 15. If it is deemed necessary for an award holder to suspend their studies, the award will be held on university account and carried forward to the year of resumption of studies and the candidate will be expected to pay their personal contribution on a pro-rata basis. 16. If, in the view of the appropriate Head of College, an award holder’s progress is deemed to be unsatisfactory, the award may be withdrawn. An award may also be withdrawn on grounds of failure to comply with any of the conditions attached to it. In either case the Secretary of the Recruitment and Admissions Committee will notify the scholar of the reasons for the withdrawal. The candidate may be required to repay to the University any award which has been made, either in whole or in part, as determined by the Committee. If the scholar feels that such a withdrawal is unjustified s/he may appeal in writing to the Chair of the Recruitment and Admissions Committee within 15 working days of the date of notification. 17. The Senate reserves the right to make, amend, withdraw, suspend or cancel without notice these and such other Regulations as may be in force from time to time and such decision shall be final. 18. Employees of Swansea University are not eligible to apply. Applicants for this scholarship who have been employed on a temporary contract by Swansea University while studying will be considered on a caseby-case basis.
