Terms of New Scholarships:
Amitava Bose Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually by the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, on the recommendation of the Director
of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, to an outstanding international student entering a graduate
program in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Carleton University. Preference will be for a
student who does not have an undergraduate degree in pure mathematics. This scholarship is intended to
support students who do not have other significant scholarship support. Endowed in 2006 by Mrs.
Ghislaine Bose in memory of her husband Amitava Bose, PhD/77, former associate professor at Carleton
University in the School of Mathematics and Statistics.
Steel Structures Education Foundation Scholarship
Value $3,000. Awarded annually, to a student enrolled in the 4th year of the Bachelor of Architecture
program or the Master of Architecture program, studying the use and design of steel products. Eligible
recipients must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected
person). Should the recipient be a graduate student, the scholarship will be awarded by the Dean of
Graduate Studies and Research, on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Architecture.
Established 2007 by the Steel Structures Education Foundation (SSEF). The Canadian Institute of Steel
Construction (CISC) is the national industry organization representing the structural steel, open web steel
joist and steel platework fabricating industries. The Steel Structures Education Foundation is a special
initiative of the CISC. Its mandate is to develop and support steel-related education.

This is a both award and will be administered by undergraduate awards.
Luther/Macdonald Bursary for International Students in Social Work
Value $500. Awarded annually to an international student enrolled in the School of Social Work at
Carleton University. Eligible recipients will be international students from outside of Canada and the
United States of America, in good academic standing and require financial assistance in order to continue
their studies. Should the recipient be a graduate student, the bursary will be awarded by the Dean of
Graduate Studies and Research on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Social Work.

Prof. Ata Khan Sustainable Transportation Grad Scholarship
Old Terms:
Awarded annually, when merited, by the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, on the recommendation
of the Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, to outstanding students in the
second year of either the master's or doctoral program in Civil Engineering. The successful candidates'
research should be in the area of sustainable transportation, as defined by the United Nations or the
Canadian Federal Government. This scholarship was endowed in 2005 by Professor Ata Khan, a faculty
member in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
New Terms:

Fred Barkley Special Bursary
This bursary, in the amount of $500, is awarded annually to a graduate student from a developing country
who requires special financial assistance in order to study at Carleton University. The recipient of the
award will be announced by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research each year.

Graduate Scholarship in Northern Research
Old Terms:
Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies,
to a graduate student who is conducting northern research. Students must submit an application, which
includes a description of their intended or ongoing thesis research to the Chair of the Graduate Studies
Committee by March 1 of each year. Established in 2002 by Thomas L. White, Ph.D. (Carleton) in Earth
Sciences and former Director of the Geotechnical Science Laboratories at Carleton University.
New Terms:

Eastern Europe or the former Soviet Union. Recipients must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents
of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person) and must also meet OSAP's Ontario residency
requirement. Recipients must demonstrate financial need. Endowed by faculty, staff and friends of the
Institute. The bursary is open to all domestic and foreign students of the Institute, and will be awarded by
the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research on the recommendation of the Director of the Institute of
European and Russian Studies.

Awarded annually by the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research on the recommendation of the Director
of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication to an outstanding graduate student enrolled in the

Dewan Chand & Ratna Devi Marwah Memorial Scholarship in Mathematics and Statistics
Old Terms:
This scholarship, valued at $1,000, was endowed in 1984 by Professor Kanta Marwah of the Department
of Economics in honour and memory of her parents. It will be awarded annually to the most outstanding
and deserving graduate student within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, preferably to a
doctoral candidate who, having successfully completed all course and comprehensive requirements, is
undertaking completion of a dissertation. No application is required. The recipient will be selected by the
Scholarship Committee, composed of the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the
Director of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute of Mathematics and Statistics, and Professor Kanta Marwah or
her designate. The recipient of the award will be announced by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate
Studies and Research in September each year. In a given year, the award may not be made for lack of a
suitable candidate.

Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian Citizens or
permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person), and must meet
OSAP's Ontario Residency requirements. Donor: The Millennium Gold Corporation.
Endowed 1998.
