Masters Degree in school social work. Certification by the State of Michigan as a school social worker. Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, school staff and administration. Possess empathy, tact, patience, and enjoy working with students who have behavior problems. Have a demonstrated ability to plan behavioral intervention strategies for students. Three years of teaching experience preferred. Experience in school social work, guidance and counseling preferred. Provides a problem-solving service to students and their families, through individual, group and community social work methods, to enable those served to manage problems restricting the benefits of the educational experience. Coordinates and develops resources within and outside the school system for use by students, their families, and school personnel. Collaborates with principals, teachers, and other school personnel to improve use of existing school programs and procedures, as well as to plan and implement new programs and procedures related to the educational needs of students. Coordinates or serves as a member of diagnostic teams and educational planning and placement committees, and provide assessment information related to planning for students with adjustment problems. Provides to the educational planning and placement committees comprehensive, diagnostic evaluations of students suspected of being emotionally impaired, and collaborates with the educational planning and placement committees in the determination of eligibility of students for programs and services for the emotionally impaired. Serves as consultant to basic classroom program personnel for the emotionally impaired, and provides direct therapy and intervention services for students identified as emotionally impaired. Participates with school staff in altering situations adversely affecting the personal, social-emotional, and academic development of students. Provides information to assist students in their course selection consistent with abilities and career interests. Provides activities and information to generally prevent students from dropping out of school and focuses on identified at-risk students. Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through interpretation of test scores and other data while working with students in developing educational and career plans. Organizes, and may administer tests, as identified in the district testing program. Obtains and disseminates career information to students and to classes studying careers or career units within a subject area. Serves as a member of the building crisis team and performs those duties and services related to this team. Maintains a daily log of contracts for future reference as necessary. Maintains regular service to students according to a determined schedule. Obtains appropriate signed permission forms before initiating a regular service schedule to a student. Provides a year-end or a termination report on each student receiving service during the year. Performs other duties as may be identified by self and as assigned by administration to provide services consistent with stated job goal.
