Company located around the Springfield, IL area. The corporation is a leading manufacturer of
electronic devices for the agricultural industry.
The primary role of the Grain Lab Supervisor is to manage all activities associated with grain
laboratory functions including by not limited to maintaining annual grain calibration updates,
developing new grain calibrations, validating new grain products, providing performance
analysis on competitive equipment, and participating in various grain associations and
certification panels.
This role requires leadership of a technical nature, requiring the Grain Lab Supervisor to
influence efforts cross functionally not only with the technicians but also within other
departments. The Grain Lab Supervisor will work with committees and agencies to make
recommendations based on project costs, timing and overall expectations in the industry while
adhering to various regulations. The Grain Lab Supervisor must be able to multi-task,
communicate clearly and work cross functionally with others.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manages the day to day tasks of lab technicians, including scheduling and monitoring of
work, setting goals and objectives and writing performance appraisals.
2. Executes plans and leads personnel towards meeting established commitments on
milestones, budget, and release dates. Ensures that product quality, performance, and margin
goals are met.
3. Manages the NTEP Certification program for our grain products and ensures that products
maintain NTEP Certification.
4. Participates in various committees and agencies that govern and specify performance
requirements for the grain products that the company manufacturers.
5. Communicates status and major risks to senior management and other company
stakeholders; creates mitigation plans as necessary

6. Handles customer requests for new calibrations and questions relative to calibrations.
7. Exchanges information on new standards and drives standards development in favor of
company’s position. Influences and persuades certification panels to select best technology for
end user segment.
8. Obtains feedback on product performance and product improvement ideas. Identifies product
deficiencies and makes recommendations to resolve issues.
9. Participates in new product development by working with Engineering and Marketing on test
methods and pass/fail criteria.
10. Updates procedures to maintain ISO compliance.
11. Maintains equipment in the company laboratories and participates in the service and
maintenance of the company's federal standards.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Grain Lab Supervisor will have direct leadership of lab technicians and will work cross
functionally with other managers to clearly identify tasks. The Grain Lab Supervisor will assign
work, monitor performance and facilitate training for employees.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1. Education:
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or related field
2. Experience:
Required
• 4+ years of experience in agriculture grain trade or grain analysis domestically.
• 2+ years of experience supervising employees.

Required:
• In depth working knowledge of Grain standards domestically as well as internationally.
• Thorough working knowledge of standard laboratory equipment needed for Grain analysis.
• Above average interpersonal skills for interfacing with customers, associations, and
certification bodies.
• Working knowledge of statistical analysis.
• Proficiency in usage of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, scheduling software (such as MS
Project) and document management software.
Desired Knowledge:
• Experience working with new product development.
• VBA Programming for Excel, MS Access
• Standardized Engineering methods
• PLS/Multivariate Analysis
• FMEA
• DOE
• DFM/DFT
• Sensitivity Analysis
4. Core Competencies:
• Strong skills in regards to grain product performance.

• Sufficient technical knowledge and experience to be able to communicate effectively with the
engineering teams, and to check/review their plans and progress.

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:
Must be able to:
• Use grain laboratory equipment such as precision scales, ovens, volume measuring
apparatus, freezers, grain separating and cleaning equipment, etc.
• Use standard office equipment such as copier, fax, telephone, etc.
• Operate computer and other electronic equipment
MENTAL, PHYSICAL and SENSORY DEMANDS:
1. Mental Effort:
• Normal periods of concentration required to complete assignments within established
deadlines
• Routinely read and write technical and non-technical information
• Regularly required to conduct research, analyze data and create methodologies/visualize
conclusions to resolve minor problems
2. Physical Requirements:
• Sit for extended periods of time
• Stand and walk/move to different locations as needed
• Travel is required for this position to participate in various trade shows, committees, and
agencies, collect Grain samples, etc.
• Position may require additional hours of work to achieve program deadlines
