RESPONSIBILITIES
A. CAREER CURRICULA
Career Education
1. Works with Grade 9 and high school teachers to ensure that portfolios are begun and maintained annually according to the NLSD
Portfolio Guidelines and that all students beginning in grade 9 have a Personal Career Portfolio.
2. Supports the grades 6 to 9 and high school teachers with career education resources, both in print and on-line.
3. Provides Career education and post-secondary options information to staff, students, parents and community.
Practical & Applied Arts
1. Ensures PAA modules are entered into SDS system at the end of each semester and as required when students exit.

B. CAREER TRANSITIONS:
1. Develops and maintains a school Career Resource Centre.
2. Works collaboratively with school administration with regard to the high school 3 year Course Offerings. (Form 202-1).
3. Works collaboratively with school administration to ensure timetabling provides maximum opportunities for students to register in
needed courses to maximize student opportunities to meet graduation requirements, post-secondary requirements, and career
aspirations.
4. Conferences with each student to develop and reviews their Academic Student Planning Guide at the beginning of each semester.
Provides regular, planned small group or individual Student Conferences (Form 240-1) with:
a) all students from grades 7 and 8 to support the Career Education curricula delivered in the classroom and to enhance Career
Development.
b) all students from grades 9 to 11 to support portfolio development, career awareness and provide individual career path
planning.
c) all potential graduates to provide support for graduation planning, post-secondary applications, apprenticeship planning,
scholarships, bursaries and awards, job readiness
5. Verifies student transcripts (marks, credits, grade and program) and verifies PowerSchool data to ensure alignment with transcripts.
6. Presents credit requirement information and student profiles to parents and obtain signatures on Academic Student Planning Guide
each semester.
7. Provides presentations regarding general subject and credit requirements to grade 9 students and parents (and other interested high
school parents).
8. Ensures students are engaged in career related events such as Canada Career Week, career fairs, career guest speakers, SUITIL,
Youth Apprenticeship, and other career related presentations.
9. Builds awareness for teachers and students of Skills Saskatchewan and Skills Canada events. Also promote awareness of and
participation in of Women in Trades. Trades/Skills Conference for female students in grade 10-12
10. Networks with community, provincial post-secondary institutions, government departments and industry for their contributions to
the school C/T Program.
11. Ensures that as soon as possible after a student discontinues, exit information (Form 240-2) is obtained.
12. Ensures discontinued students and their parents are provided with information on options for alternative education programs and
adult career services.
13. Assists in the registration and data entry of students as directed by school administration.

OBSERVATIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS:
C. SCHOLARSHIPS, AWARDS & BURSARIES:
1. Ensures that all scholarship, bursary and awards information is made known to students and teachers and posted in a timely
manner.
2. Assist students and parents in applying for appropriate scholarships, bursaries & awards.
3. Ensure that all students graduating have a scholarship package (begun in early spring and completed by end of school year).
4. Assist students, teachers, administration and parents in preparing and collecting appropriate reference letters for scholarship package
before the school year end.
5. Complete and submit NLSD scholarship applications immediately in the fall using the scholarship packages.

D. SUMMER SCHOOL:
1. Ensures students and parents are informed in general about the Summer School Program.
2. Works with teachers to identify students who might require summer school.
3. Ensures students wanting to attend Summer School meet the criteria and understand their commitment, dates, location and times.
4. Ensures all applications (summer school and NLSD Educational Support forms) are completed properly and students applying are
eligible for Summer School – (one class only is recommended).
5. Ensures applications are submitted before the division deadline to the Room & Board Worker at NLSD Central Office.

E. YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP:
1. Participates on the school Team and contributes to plan for YAP implementation.
2. Supports the implementation of the school’s Youth Apprenticeship implementation plan by providing information and resources.
3. Arranges for the provision of YAP information to students, teachers and parents.
4. Works with school team and teachers to actualize student participation in the program.
5. Ensures that information regarding the YAP scholarships is presented to all students.

F. PARTNERSHIPS:
1. Works to enhance and support an active approach to student career engagement strategies, initiate and support partnership,
develop and assist in ongoing division wide based programming.
2. Works with NLSD support staff to develop and accommodate specific partnerships with training and employment initiatives active
within the Northern Region to allow for development and economic partnering with external agencies to better react to student need in
the grade 10-12 realm. Process and procedure would be further articulated, e.g.) Dene High Welding, Sask. Housing
3. Nurture economic/in-kind supports that external agencies, corporation etc. may consider to help enable external support to be more
effective E.g.) U of S, Office of Outreach programs, Northlands College etc..
4. Maintain ongoing communiqué via meetings, newsletter, school visits that allow for promotion and support.
5. Work with NLSD support staff to access funding support for school career related engagement strategies, division related committees
and relationships such as Northern Health Strategy, Northern Career Quest, Community Vitality, Northern Labour Market, Career
Ambassadors.
