REHOMING CENTRE Job Title: Maintenance Operative Reporting to: Operations Manager / Assistant Managers Location: Dogs Trust January 2014 Revised: Summary Ensuring that routine maintenance, within skills and qualifications, is carried out in a safe manner so that the Rehoming Centre remains operational at all times. Ensuring that the Operations Manager/Assistant Managers are aware of those maintenance jobs requiring outside assistance. Duties General maintenance work, including carpentry, decoration and ground maintenance. Repair of items such as doors, pop hatches, windows and fences that may become broken. Minor works to enhance environment of Rehoming Centre, to include such things as making platforms and jumps for dogs, erection of signage and notice boards etc. Maintenance of the grounds, to include grass cutting, planting and maintenance of borders etc. Minor works to maintain housing owned by Dogs Trust, but excluding internal decoration of occupied housing. To be conversant with the operation of central heating systems of Rehoming Centre, carrying out routine maintenance as specified by supplier or maker. Page 1 of 2 To be conversant with the sewage treatment and waste disposal system of Rehoming Centre, carrying out routine maintenance in accordance with suppliers' or makers' instructions. Liaise with representatives of the Property Department on their routine visits, notifying them of potential or developing problems and discussing routine work to be undertaken. Making deliveries and collections. Other duties as directed. Notes: a. All Maintenance Operatives are to attend Safety, Health and Welfare training, as arranged by Dogs Trust H&S Manager, unless they can produce evidence of appropriate prior training. b. Electrical work, apart from fitting of plugs and exchanging of fuses, light bulbs and tubes, is only to be carried out by those with the appropriate qualifications. c. Plumbing, other than the rodding of drains and simple repairs to plastic piping, tap washers etc, is not to be undertaken by those without the appropriate qualifications. d. Ladder work higher than 3 metres above ground level is not to be undertaken. e. Only those power tools are to be used on which Health and Safety training has been received. Person Specification The successful individual must have a strong work ethic, be able to work on their own initiative and be proactive and resourceful. The candidate must be a strong team player, reliable and flexible, with good communication skills. A minimum of three years experience in a similar role is highly desirable. A Trade Qualification is of benefit. Must have a full clean driving licence. Page 2 of 2
