Supplementary Table 1) Summary table of the fit parameters obtained from the data collected from each monkey: a) face sites (d prime > 1) and b) nonface sites (d prime ≤ 1). Monkeys’ psychometric functions are fitted with logistic functions separately for each stimulation condition. The logistic function used to fit every condition is: P(x) = 1/(1+e-(αx+β)) where x is the visual signal of the image presented and α and β are fit parameters. “Bias index” is calculated as the – β/α ratio for nonstimulated condition which shows the intercept of the non-stimulated psychometric function in units of visual signal. “Mean shift by stimulation” is the averaged horizontal shift of the psychometrics function for stimulation condition (to avoid confusion, only results from 50-100 ms stimulation condition are shown in this table) in units of the visual signal where positive values indicate a leftward shift. Mean α of non-stimulated condition and its change for stimulation condition is reported as a measure of psychometric function slope at its steepest point. Reward loss is the averaged “decrease” of reward amount obtained by monkey in the stimulation condition comparing to non-stimulated condition. Each data point is shown with its ± SD. Please note that tables contain averaged values from all stimulated face and non-face sites (tables a and b, respectively) including those with and without significant effects.
